Castillo Engineering and Northern Sun Energy Launch Solar Initiative in New York
In a significant move towards sustainable energy, Castillo Engineering and Northern Sun Energy (NSE) have been awarded three new community solar projects located in Kinderhook, Wilton, and East Greenbush, New York. These projects represent a collective capacity of 31.49 MWdc, providing clean, renewable energy to thousands of homes throughout the region. This expansion reflects the ongoing partnership's success in spearheading clean energy solutions in New York.
The awarded projects were initiated by Seaboard Solar, a key player in the solar energy landscape. This initiative comes on the heels of the successful commissioning of the 5 MW Troy project, which both Castillo Engineering and NSE executed from initial design through to final interconnection. The firms have developed a robust collaboration, enabling them to secure ongoing projects across the state, further solidifying New York's leadership in community solar deployment.
Each of the new projects comes with its own engineering challenges. For instance, Wilton and East Greenbush are characterized by uneven terrain, necessitating a well-thought-out balance-of-system approach. This strategy aims to effectively manage the distances between solar arrays and interconnection points. Moreover, adherences to rigorous voltage drop requirements compelled Castillo Engineering to devise cost-effective design solutions, ensuring compliance without inflating project costs unnecessarily.
Christopher Castillo, CEO of Castillo Engineering, expressed pride in contributing to New York's solar growth through collaboration with Northern Sun Energy and Seaboard Solar. "These projects demanded creative engineering solutions to navigate the technical constraints and maximize cost-effectiveness. Our team worked hand-in-hand with NSE to fine-tune designs while maintaining efficiency," he stated.
NSE's Managing Partner, Chris Balogh, echoed similar sentiments regarding the partnership's ongoing work on these projects. "Their expertise in system design optimization has proven vital for the efficiency and cost-effectiveness of our projects, facilitating smooth execution."
As New York accelerates its expansive community solar program, these new ventures are set to supply affordable, locally generated clean energy to both residents and local businesses. The concerted efforts of Castillo Engineering, Northern Sun Energy, and Seaboard Solar will assure the implementation of cost-effective and high-quality solar installations that yield benefits for developers and communities alike.
Shawn Brazo, President of Seaboard Solar, remarked on the strong collaboration among the teams: "The teamwork between Northern Sun Energy, Castillo Engineering, and Seaboard Solar epitomizes the trust and expertise we’ve built together. These initiatives will not only deliver reliable, clean power to the communities but also foster economic growth through job creation and enhanced energy independence."
