New Leadership Appointments at the American Board of Emergency Medicine
On March 3, 2026, the American Board of Emergency Medicine (ABEM) welcomed two prominent physicians, Dr. Jeffrey D. Ho and Dr. Mary E. Tanski, into its Board of Directors. Their election marks a significant development for ABEM, known for its commitment to advancing the specialty of emergency medicine. Their terms are set to begin in July 2026.
Dr. Ho, currently a Senior Faculty member in the Department of Emergency Medicine at Hennepin Healthcare in Minneapolis, adds a wealth of knowledge to the board. He also serves as a Professor of Emergency Medicine at the University of Minnesota Medical School and holds the position of Medical Director for several public safety agencies across Minnesota. With a rich background in emergency medical services, law enforcement, and forensic emergency medicine, Dr. Ho is well-equipped to inform and guide ABEM’s mission. His contributions as an ABEM volunteer, including roles as an Oral Examiner and Item Writer, highlight his commitment to the organization.
Meanwhile, Dr. Tanski holds the title of Professor and Chair in the Department of Emergency Medicine at Oregon Health and Science University (OHSU) in Portland. Additionally, she is actively involved in the Division of Management at OHSU and contributes as Co-Fellowship Director for the Emergency Department Administration Fellowship. Her leadership capabilities are further demonstrated as she currently serves as President-Elect for the Association of Academic Chairs of Emergency Medicine. Dr. Tanski's extensive experience as an ABEM volunteer enhances her qualifications, particularly in developing examination content and frameworks critical to the certification process.
