NYU Langone Health Welcomes New Psychiatry Chair

NYU Langone Health recently announced the appointment of Dr. William Gordon Frankle, MD, MBA, as the new chair of the Department of Psychiatry at the NYU Grossman School of Medicine. Dr. Frankle brings a wealth of experience and a proven track record of leadership in the psychiatric field. Previously, he served as the vice chair of the department and chief of psychiatry service at NYU Langone Hospital—Brooklyn. His new role will officially commence in September 2026.

A significant aspect of his tenure includes the launch of a new psychiatry residency program focused on community psychiatry and innovative clinical programs. Notably, he developed the Enhanced Treatment and Recovery program for individuals with serious mental illness, which was recognized with the American Psychiatric Association's Silver Award for Psychiatric Service Achievement in 2024.

It is currently ranked 8th in the country by U.S. News & World Report, while also being recognized as the 6th top program for National Institutes of Health psychiatric grant funding, according to the Blue Ridge Institute for Medical Research. About Dr. William Gordon Frankle

Dr. Frankle's educational background is impressive; he earned his bachelor’s degree from McGill University, followed by his medical degree from New York Medical College. His residency in adult psychiatry was completed at Massachusetts General Hospital/McLean Hospital, and he further specialized with a research fellowship in schizophrenia at the New York State Psychiatric Institute at Columbia University. Beyond clinical practice, Dr. Frankle holds a Master of Business Administration in medical management from the University of Massachusetts' Isenberg School of Business.
