Lone Palm Golf Club Celebrates Grand Opening

On May 21, 2025, Lone Palm Golf Club in Lakeland, Florida, witnessed a significant milestone as Florida Southern College inaugurated its brand new state-of-the-art golf clubhouse. The ceremony included a ribbon-cutting event attended by student-athletes, alumni, community leaders, and special guests, marking a new chapter in the college's storied golf programs.

A Hub of Excellence

The new clubhouse, spanning an impressive 4,000 square feet, is designed to be a central hub for performance, training, and recognition. A prominently featured Championship Lobby celebrates the 33 titles achieved by both Florida Southern's men’s and women’s golf teams. In addition, the facility includes dedicated coaches' offices, two highly advanced TrackMan hitting simulators, an innovative PuttView studio, a fitness and rehabilitation area, a versatile meeting room, and a modern lounge for student-athletes.

Drew Howard, the Director of Athletics and Dean of Wellness at Florida Southern College, expressed enthusiasm about this new addition, highlighting that this clubhouse not only celebrates the legacy of Florida Southern golf but also paves the way for future success. “We are incredibly excited to open this stunning new clubhouse. Florida Southern golf has a proud tradition of competitive excellence, and this new space secures that legacy for the future,” Howard stated.

Honoring Legacy

The opening ceremony also paid tribute to two major figures in Florida Southern's golf history: Robbie Davis, the current head coach of the women’s golf team, and Doug Gordin, the former head coach for the men's team. Their pro-style locker rooms stand as a testament to their impactful mentorship and leadership, celebrating their contributions that significantly raised the program's profile nationally.

“Thanks to the generous support from our alumni and donors, we’ve created a facility that will elevate our programs and attract the best student-athletes to Florida Southern College,” Howard added, emphasizing the importance of community support in bringing such a vision to fruition.

The launch of this clubhouse sets the foundation for ongoing achievements in the college’s golf programs. It provides student-athletes with the necessary resources, advanced technology, and an inspiring environment, enabling them to compete at the highest level. In addition to their golf facilities, Florida Southern College remains committed to academic excellence through a variety of undergraduate and graduate programs, reinforcing its status as a top educational institution.
