Saitama Prefecture Unveils New Video and Brochure to Promote Traditional SAYAMA-CHA Globally
Saitama Prefecture's New Global Campaign for SAYAMA-CHA
Saitama Prefecture has made a significant move in promoting its cherished traditional tea, SAYAMA-CHA, on the international stage. With a newly released promotional video and an informative brochure, the prefecture aims to share the unique charm and rich heritage of this beloved beverage with the world.
SAYAMA-CHA is praised as one of Japan's top three teas, renowned for its robust flavor and delicate sweetness. Grown in the picturesque Sayama Hills, located just 30 kilometers from Tokyo, this tea reflects the region's exceptional microclimate. Here, temperature fluctuations throughout the seasons range from sweltering summers hitting up to 35 degrees Celsius to chilly winters dipping near -10 degrees Celsius, contributing to a flavor profile that is both deep and complex.
The Essence of SAYAMA-CHA
The essence of SAYAMA-CHA lies in its elaborate cultivation and meticulous production processes. The tea is grown by local farmers who have dedicated generations to perfecting their craft. Many of these farmers operate family-run plantations, where traditional techniques have been handed down through the years. They manage every step of the process, from cultivation to processing and finally, to the sale of the tea, ensuring a distinct taste with each harvest.
As the prefecture puts it under the motto, “From Saitama to the World,” this campaign is part of a broader initiative to elevate the visibility of SAYAMA-CHA. The new promotional materials describe how the tea cultivates a moment of tranquility, inviting drinkers to engage in a mindful experience. Serving the tea involves pouring hot water—cooled to about 80 degrees Celsius—over carefully steeped leaves, allowing the rich aromas to fill the air. Each sip offers a concentrated umami taste, fostering a serene moment perfect for heartfelt conversations.
Commitment to Quality
Saitama's local farmers take immense pride in their product as they are not only purveyors of tea but also custodians of their local culture and practices. They have developed and fine-tuned their expertise over decades, and it shows in the exceptional quality of their tea. The unique roasting technique known as
