Recognition of Shooting Excellence: Franco and Pietro Gussalli Beretta
On February 27, 2026, during the IWA OutdoorClassics exhibition, the World Forum on Shooting Activities (WFSA) honored the Gussalli Beretta brothers with the prestigious Dr. Vito Genco Shooting Ambassador Award. This accolade is the highest distinction given by WFSA for outstanding contributions to hunting, sports shooting, and responsible civilian firearm ownership.
Tony Bernardo, President of WFSA, expressed the significance of the award, stating, "It's an immense honor to present our highest award to leaders who embody the essence of what our organization promotes—excellence in hunting, competitive shooting, and responsible firearms ownership. The presentation of this award during Beretta's 500th anniversary is especially meaningful."
Honoring a Legacy
Franco Gussalli Beretta, who accepted the award on behalf of his brother, emphasized the importance of tradition and innovation within the shooting community. He remarked, "We are profoundly grateful to receive this honor from WFSA, an organization committed to scientific research, tradition, values, and innovation."
The 500-year history of the Fabbrica d'Armi Pietro Beretta adds a layer of historical value to the recognition, as it marks a significant milestone for the company founded in 1526. Franco serves as the President and CEO of Fabbrica d'Armi Pietro Beretta, while Pietro holds the positions of President and CEO of Beretta Holding and other roles within the group.
A Celebration of Achievement and Tradition
The plenary session where the award was presented also celebrated the 30th anniversary of WFSA, highlighted by a presentation from former president Graham Downing. Honors were also given to Jürgen Kohlheim for his long-standing contributions to the executive committee. Additional discussions focused on various topics, including the shooting disciplines at the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles, proposed EU restrictions on lead ammunition, and an innovative political database tool developed by WFSA.
Franco Gussalli Beretta noted the diverse array of previous awardees, which includes Olympic athletes, writers, and even public figures such as the late Justice Antonin Scalia of the United States Supreme Court. This continual recognition showcases the impact of individuals within the global shooting community.
