atNorth Secures Land in Sweden for a Future Mega Data Center Expansion

atNorth Expands Operations with New Land in Sweden

atNorth, a leading Nordic provider of colocation and high-performance computing services, has achieved a significant milestone by securing a 30-hectare plot in Sollefteå Municipality, located in Hamre Industripark, Långsele, Sweden. This strategic move is part of their vision to establish a new data center that will initially operate with a capacity of 200 megawatts (MW).

The site was chosen for its advantageous characteristics, including robust infrastructure, ample energy supply, and Sweden’s renowned cool climate, which is ideal for data center operations. Another major benefit is the country's plentiful renewable energy resources, aligning with atNorth's commitment to sustainability.

Johan Andersson, Chair of the Municipal Executive Committee, expressed excitement regarding this collaboration, stating, "This is a fantastic opportunity for Sollefteå Municipality and the Hamre area. We are delighted to partner with atNorth, a leader in data center solutions. This project has the potential to strengthen our region as a hub for innovative development."

atNorth, which launched its cutting-edge SWE01 site in Stockholm in 2022, is keen on complementing its existing metro sites with this new mega facility. Eyjólfur Magnús Kristinsson, CEO of atNorth, noted, "We are excited to explore the possibility of this mega site in Sweden as it will support the increasing demand for our sustainable infrastructure. Our goal is to scale responsibly while benefitting the Nordic locations we inhabit."

This announcement coincides with ongoing expansions of atNorth’s data center facilities in Iceland, as well as the development of the new DEN02 site in Ølgod, Denmark. At present, the company has additional sites in the pipeline, including two in Finland – FIN02 in Sinimäentie, Espoo, and FIN04 in Kouvola – and another site DEN01 in Ballerup, Denmark.
