KISTERS Unveils HyQuant Edge: A Revolutionary Radar Sensor Monitoring Station for Hydrology
KISTERS Launches HyQuant Edge
KISTERS, a leader in environmental data solutions, has launched the groundbreaking HyQuant Edge, a first-of-its-kind radar sensor-based monitoring station tailored for quantitative hydrology. This innovative all-in-one device, powered by KIPTEC (KISTERS Intelligence Platform Technology for Embedded Connectivity), consolidates multiple functions—measurement, data recording, edge processing, transmission, and cloud connectivity—into a single compact unit.
A New Era in Hydrological Monitoring
Traditionally, hydrological monitoring stations relied on a cluster of various components, making them cumbersome and often difficult to deploy in remote locations. However, HyQuant Edge represents a significant advancement, addressing structural challenges in the field. While devices in other sectors have become smaller and more intelligent, hydrological equipment has lagged behind, resulting in high deployment costs and impractical setups in less accessible areas. KISTERS aims to change this.
"Traditional monitoring stations focused on data collection and transfer often required multiple components assembled on-site without integrating intelligence. We designed HyQuant Edge to alter this approach," states Klaas Schulze Dieckhoff, the Global Head of R&D at KISTERS.
The HyQuant Edge offers a fundamentally different experience through its autonomous and adaptive system. Here, measurement, processing, and communication operate synergistically. This functionality enables teams to effectively deploy more sites with reduced infrastructure and at a lower cost per location.
Ideal for temporary, emergency, or remote deployments, these stations are also suitable for permanent sites where infrastructure challenges exist. HyQuant Edge comes in four versions—Level (L), Surface Velocity (V), Combined Level and Velocity (L+V), and Discharge (Q). The L, V, and L+V versions can be software-upgraded to Q without necessitating hardware replacements.
Energy Efficiency and Reliability
Designed for security, HyQuant Edge stations connect to the cloud automatically, optimizing energy consumption through adaptive event-based recording while ensuring data integrity. This integrity is maintained during connectivity interruptions due to the device's storage and retransmission capabilities. Manufactured in Germany, HyQuant Edge supports LTE-Cat-M1/NB-IoT technology and integrates smoothly with existing monitoring platforms through open standards.
Anton Felder, Global HydroMet Director at KISTERS, mentioned, "There has always been a disparity between the number of locations needing measurement and the systems available to reach them due to deployment constraints. HyQuant Edge fits into existing infrastructure and budget limitations, making it particularly advantageous for network densification."
KISTERS continues to innovate in the environmental data landscape, and the HyQuant Edge is set to redefine standards in hydrological monitoring. Follow KISTERS on LinkedIn for updates and insights about their latest products and initiatives.
