GAC Group's Ambitious Plans for Global Competitiveness
Feng Xingya, the Chairman of GAC Group, recently arrived in Beijing for the National Two Sessions, where he presented key proposals aimed at enhancing the global competitiveness of China's automotive industry. His focus centers on the significance of aligning domestic standards with international ones to facilitate the success of Chinese automobile exports. With the automotive industry on the rise, GAC Group aims not only to maintain its status as a major exporter but also to emerge as a leader in the global market.
Challenges and Strategic Proposals
One major hurdle that Feng identifies is the current lack of alignment between domestic and global standards. This divergence not only hampers the international influence of China's automotive sector but also poses challenges for exporters looking to penetrate global markets. To address these issues, Feng proposed the establishment of a compliance service system that fosters adherence to international standards. Moreover, he emphasized the need for greater coordination among domestic enterprises to convert China’s technological advantages into competitive export opportunities.
Feng argues that accelerating the internationalization of Chinese standards is crucial for enhancing the quality of auto exports. By taking part in global discourse on standards-setting, China can significantly improve its bargaining power and secure a more prominent position on the world stage.
GAC Group’s Export Success
GAC Group has successfully penetrated diverse markets, exporting to 86 countries and regions across five continents: Asia-Pacific, Middle East and Africa, Europe, the CIS, and Central and South America. The company has also expanded its global sales channels to 650 and constructed five knockdown (KD) factories in strategic locations, including Nigeria, Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia, and Austria. Data from the beginning of 2026 shows that GAC has maintained robust growth, with overseas sales soaring by 69% year-on-year in January alone.
In February, GAC’s monthly overseas sales surpassed 11,125 vehicles, marking a significant increase of 114% compared to the previous year. In total, sales exceeded 25,126 units in the first two months, reinforcing the company's strong momentum in international markets. Looking forward, GAC is committed to further enhancing its global presence by coordinating its industrial chain, digitalization, and financial systems both on a broader scale and within specific regions.
Focus on Technological Advancements
In addition to boosting exports, Feng Xingya emphasizes the company's focus on electrification, smart technologies, and overall societal benefits. He advocates for unified battery swapping standards that would streamline operations and regulatory frameworks for autonomous driving. This not only benefits the automotive sector but aligns with broader societal goals, such as sustainable and age-friendly mobility solutions.
Furthermore, Feng outlines plans for developing low-altitude economies and enhancing living standards in rural areas. This would involve pilot projects in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, aiming for cross-border data regulations and various interconnected initiatives to enhance quality of life and access to advanced technologies.
Commitment to Innovation and Service
GAC Group's strategic objectives stretch beyond sales figures; the company aims to drive industrial upgrades through continuous innovation. By enhancing product development, operational strategies, and distribution channels, GAC aims to solidify its status not merely as an exporter but as a comprehensive automotive powerhouse. This ambition, guided by a commitment to technological and structural innovation, seeks to offer exceptional mobility experiences while promoting greener travel solutions to consumers worldwide.
Feng Xingya affirms that through this proactive approach, GAC Group is poised not only to contribute to China’s aspirations of becoming an automotive leader but also to play a vital role in improving the general well-being of society. By prioritizing digital inclusion and sustainable practices, GAC stands at the forefront of redefining the future of transportation.
