Expo 2027 Belgrade: A Gateway for Slovenian Businesses and Tourism

Yesterday in Ljubljana, Slovenia showcased its pavilion concept for the upcoming Expo 2027 in Belgrade during a significant networking event called "Visit Serbia B2B Networking." This gathering attracted over 50 professionals, bridging the gap between Slovenian businesses and Serbian travel agencies, all while exploring potential cross-border partnerships ahead of the inaugural specialized exhibition of the Western Balkans.

Key figures such as Danilo Jerinić, the director-general of Expo 2027 Belgrade; Blaž Cvar, the president of the Chamber of Crafts and Small Business of Slovenia; and Mag. Leon Korošec, Slovenia's Secretary of State for Economy, Tourism, and Sports, delivered opening remarks. Jerinić emphasized that the success of Expo will not solely be evaluated by the immediate activities of the three-month event, but also by the lasting business relationships it fosters, leading to contracts, job-creating investments, and repeat visitors.

The Slovenian pavilion concept was presented by Saša Lavrič, the Slovenian general commissioner, along with Mag. Maja Pak Olaj, the director of the Slovenian Tourist Board. Their presentation illustrated how the pavilion would not only serve as a showcase for Slovenia's achievements but also as a platform to enhance Slovenia's visibility among international tourists and investors.

The B2B exchanges that took place focused on cross-border tourism offerings that promote destinations beyond Belgrade, indicating a move to enrich regional travel experiences. According to data from the Serbian Statistical Office, bilateral trade in goods reached approximately $2.04 billion in 2025, showcasing the robust economic ties between Slovenia and Serbia. Additionally, over 1,200 Slovenian companies operate in Serbia, employing around 25,000 individuals, highlighting the significant presence of Slovenian enterprises within the Serbian market.

Expo 2027 Belgrade is set to take place from May 15 to August 15, 2027, under the theme "Play for Humanity: Sports and Music for All." The event will welcome more than 140 international participants, creating a unique space for cultural exchange and showcasing innovations in various fields including tourism, design, and technology. The Expo aims to foster a more connected world by celebrating human spirit through sports and music.

In conclusion, the unveiling of Slovenia's pavilion concept marks an exciting chapter for both Slovenian businesses and the tourism sector as they prepare to engage with global audiences at Expo 2027 Belgrade. The event promises not only to boost local economies but also to enhance cultural ties between Slovenia and Serbia, paving the way for future collaborative efforts that can potentially ripple across the region and beyond. This strategic exposure is expected to yield dividends that last well beyond the Expo's duration, transforming how both countries approach tourism and international business moving forward.
