Arevon Energy Celebrates New 200 Megawatt Energy Storage Project in San Diego
Arevon Energy, Inc., a prominent player in the world of energy, recently celebrated the completion of its latest venture, the
Peregrine Energy Storage Project, located in San Diego. This facility, boasting a capacity of
200 megawatts (MW) and capable of storing
400 megawatt-hours (MWh) of electricity, signifies a monumental achievement in the development of renewable energy infrastructure in California.
The ribbon-cutting ceremony, held on July 30, 2025, marked the official operational status of the project, which was initially announced as fully operational in June. With a total investment of
$300 million, the Peregrine project is designed to provide reliable electricity during peak demand moments, thus playing a crucial role in reducing the risk of brownouts and blackouts within the region. The impact of this facility is projected to support up to
254,000 homes for two hours each day, dramatically enhancing energy security for families and businesses in the area.
Erected in the
Barrio Logan community, the Peregrine Energy Storage Project not only contributes to local energy needs but also stimulates the economy, creating over
90 jobs during its peak construction phase and providing long-term property tax benefits estimated at more than
$28 million throughout its operational lifespan. The facility utilizes state-of-the-art
lithium iron phosphate batteries, recognized for their safety and efficiency, aligning with Arevon's commitment to safe energy solutions.
During the ceremony, Arevon's CEO,
Kevin Smith, delivered a powerful opening speech, addressing the collaboration between the company, local leadership, and community members that made this project a reality. Other notable speakers included
San Diego Mayor Todd Gloria,
Chris Cate, the President of the San Diego Regional Chamber of Commerce, and
Fernando Hernandez, Principal at Perkins K-8 School, reflecting the project's positive community engagement and support.
Mayor Gloria emphasized that this project benefits not just the immediate community but aligns with the broader goals of San Diego's
Climate Action Plan (CAP)—which aims for
net zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2035. He underscored the importance of energy storage in stabilizing the electric grid and moving away from fossil fuels, highlighting how projects like
Peregrine help pave the way to a cleaner, more sustainable future.
In addition to its functional aspects, Arevon is dedicated to being a good neighbor. The organization has previously engaged with local initiatives such as
Father Joe's Villages, assisting the homeless, and the
Barrio Logan College Institute, which supports STEM education for first-generation college students. Their contributions to these community efforts underscore Arevon's commitment to social responsibility and local development.
The company, which operates over
3.2 gigawatts of energy projects in California alone, continues to expand its footprint with new ventures, including projects related to solar energy and additional energy storage initiatives, fostering a significant impact on the future of renewable energy across the nation.
The Peregrine project stands as a testament to Arevon's vision and the collaborative efforts required to bring such extensive projects to life. As California grapples with the demand for reliable and sustainable energy solutions, the success of the Peregrine Energy Storage Project ensures a more resilient electric grid, enhancing energy availability for all of San Diego's residents and beyond.
