On October 4, 2025, TECO Electric & Machinery Co., Ltd. made a significant splash at Busworld in Brussels, where they unveiled their latest innovation: an oil-cooled hair-pin EV powertrain. Partnering with BRIST, a reputable axle manufacturer from Italy, the two companies presented integrated e-axle solutions tailored for the European commercial electric vehicle (EV) market. This collaborative effort marks TECO's strategic entry into a region rapidly embracing electric mobility.

Innovative E-Axle Solutions



The partnership has resulted in the launch of two bespoke e-axle modules specifically designed for electric buses. These modules can accommodate various chassis configurations, featuring a Parallel-Shaft E-Axle and a Wheel-Side E-Axle system, which are compatible with both high-floor and low-floor bus designs. This flexibility addresses the diverse requirements of commercial vehicle manufacturers and aims to reduce costs and shorten time-to-market.

The integrated e-axle system also boasts notable engineering achievements. By optimizing mechanical losses and reducing overall weight, the e-axle addresses common hurdles faced by manufacturers regarding spatial constraints and vehicle performance. Furthermore, this innovation promises to enhance sound insulation, a growing concern among original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) focused on improving electric vehicle efficiency.

Engineered for Exceptional Efficiency



At the forefront of TECO’s showcase was their cutting-edge third-generation oil-cooled hair-pin motor technology. This motor achieves an impressive peak efficiency exceeding 97.5%, delivering up to 250 kW of power and 580 Nm of torque. Remarkably lightweight at under 62 kg (including the oil pump and cooling system), it offers a power density 3–4 times greater than traditional direct drive motors, registering 4.1 kW/kg. This remarkable advancement not only facilitates applications in large electric buses but also extends its utility to light commercial vehicles and specialized off-road machinery.

As BRIST specializes in custom solutions for commercial vehicle driveline technologies, their partnership amplifies the reach and adaptability of the e-axle variants offered. With BRIST's established distribution networks and loyal clientele across Europe, this collaboration is poised to enhance market position for both companies.

Expanding Horizons in the EV Market

Currently, TECO holds a formidable 80% of the e-bus powertrain market in Taiwan. In North America, they are strategically targeting e-bus and e-truck buyers with a new charging station assembly line established in Texas, while also preparing for mass production in India by the year's end.
