Bamboo En Launches New Safety Service to Support Elderly Employment
Bamboo En, a company based in Toyota City, Aichi Prefecture, announced the formal launch of a new occupational safety service called the Fieldwork Potential Test (フィルポテ). This service, designed to measure physical capabilities and provide support for improvement, includes a month-long video training program along with a follow-up evaluation. The initiative seeks to improve workplace safety, particularly in light of the increasing number of accidents involving elderly workers.
Overview of the New Service
The Fieldwork Potential Test aims to create a full cycle of assessment and improvement for employees. Starting on July 16, 2026, the service will debut at the 13th Tokyo Occupational Safety and Health Exhibition held at Tokyo Big Sight. The service's unique aspect is its focus on providing specific training based on measurement results, enabling targeted enhancements in employees' physical abilities.
Bamboo En leverages its extensive experience in the landscaping industry and knowledge from high-altitude work and construction to offer comprehensive assessments. Companies are encouraged to utilize these evaluations to proactively address employee health and safety needs.
Addressing Workplace Safety Concerns
According to data released by the Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare, workplace falls constitute 26.8% of fatal and non-fatal accidents, leading to an average of 48.5 days of work absence. Despite many companies conducting health check-ups and fitness evaluations, there has been a notable struggle with determining effective assessment methods and improvement strategies. Thus, this new service was developed to directly respond to user needs relating to post-assessment actions.
Service Structure
The service consists of a structured plan known as Plan B, which involves:
1.
Initial Measurement: Employees undergo a comprehensive evaluation to assess their current physical capabilities.
2.
Monthly Training: Following the initial measurement, employees will participate in a one-month training program that incorporates exercises designed to enhance their specific weaknesses.
3.
Reevaluation: After the training period, employees will be re-evaluated to assess improvements and further support their development.
The training program is composed of two main elements: a 4-minute and 30-second workplace radio exercise called Fil-Training and Fil-Care, where employees work on their specific weaknesses at home.
Results and Effectiveness
Initial results from testing show promising advancements in various physical capability metrics, such as shoulder flexibility, single-leg stance duration, and trunk flexibility. Notably, the duration of maintaining a single-leg stance is critical as it serves as a key indicator for assessing the risk of falls.
Awards and Recognition
The efforts surrounding the Fieldwork Potential Test have garnered significant accolades, including the Block Award at the SAFE Consortium Awards 2023 in the Age-Friendly category. This recognition underscores the effectiveness and potential impact of the program in enhancing workplace safety, especially for older employees.
