JLR and Tata Communications Join Forces for Next-Level Connected Cars

JLR and Tata Communications Strengthen Partnership

In a groundbreaking move to enhance automotive technology, Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) has teamed up with Tata Communications to revolutionize its connected vehicle ecosystem. This partnership, which revolves around Tata Communications' MOVE™ platform, aims to transform the driving experience for customers globally by introducing smarter, data-centric vehicles optimized for connectivity.

The MOVE Towards Enhanced Connectivity

With the increasing demand for advanced in-car technology, JLR's collaboration with Tata Communications marks a significant step toward harnessing the power of data in driving contexts. Through the MOVE™ platform, JLR will provide continuous connectivity across 120 countries, ensuring that drivers remain connected even in remote areas. This is specifically significant for the upcoming range of medium-sized SUVs that will be built on the innovative Electric Modular Architecture (EMA).

The MOVE™ platform will allow these vehicles to switch seamlessly between mobile networks, guaranteeing uninterrupted access to personalized services such as media streaming and navigation. With built-in resilience and secure data exchange, the collaboration promises enhanced capabilities for software updates over-the-air (SOTA) and the integration of advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS).

Driving Innovation Through Real-Time Insights

Currently, JLR's connected fleet produces a staggering 2.5 terabytes of data daily. The partnership will expand this data management ability, providing JLR engineers with real-time insights into vehicle performance. Monthly updates to approximately half a million electronic control units (ECUs) would not just be a possibility; they will be streamlined to enhance overall vehicle maintenance and reduce long-term costs for both customers and the manufacturer.

Marco Bijvelds, Vice President and Global Head of Tata Communications MOVE™, remarks on the partnership's significance in helping JLR meet the evolving demands of consumers. He emphasizes how the collaboration will bridge the gap between production processes and customer experiences globally, leveraging a wealth of data to create personalized experiences and develop new revenue streams.

Anticipated Benefits for Customers

As JLR gears up to launch its new line of intelligent SUVs in 2026, there are exciting enhancements on the horizon:
  • - Robust wireless communication technologies that facilitate vehicle tracking even in challenging environments.
  • - Frequent vehicle software updates delivered via the cloud, enhancing diagnostics and maintenance.
  • - Customized connectivity solutions that allow families to stay connected to their preferred apps and vehicle features.
  • - Simplified connectivity plans, providing seamless service under a single provider.

Mark Brogden, Director of Digital Product Platform Off-Board at JLR, notes that this collaboration is a logical progression following JLR's efforts to introduce advanced connectivity features like the dual modem, dual eSIM design in the Defender model launched in 2020. With Tata Communications, JLR aims to continue this trajectory, ensuring that their upcoming luxury SUVs deliver the intelligent, connected experiences expected by modern consumers.

A Sustainable Future

Beyond innovation in connectivity, JLR's Reimagine strategy also emphasizes a sustainable future. The company aims to achieve a net-zero carbon footprint across its operations and supply chain by 2039. This collaboration is a vital part of that vision, enabling JLR to enhance its digital capabilities while also contributing to overall environmental goals.

As JLR and Tata Communications join forces, the automotive landscape is set for a transformative journey. By integrating scalable, data-driven solutions into their vehicles, they are not just changing how we drive today but also redefining the experience for future generations. The automotive industry is undoubtedly on the cusp of a connectivity revolution, making every journey smarter, safer, and more enjoyable.
