TACA's 72nd Annual Meeting: A Milestone Event
The Texas Aggregates & Concrete Association (TACA) recently celebrated its 72nd Annual Meeting in style, gathering an impressive assembly of over 600 professionals including industry leaders, producers, and business partners at the luxurious JW Marriott San Antonio Hill Country Resort & Spa. This major event, themed "Building the Community," is now recognized as the largest Annual Meeting in the association's history, emphasizing the critical role that the aggregates and concrete industry plays in supporting Texas' rapid growth.
During the meeting, TACA President and CEO Andrew S. Pinkerton underscored the industry's pivotal responsibility in addressing the state's increasing infrastructure demands. He stated, "Every road, school, hospital, home, and business begins with the materials our members produce." His message resonated with attendees, reinforcing the notion that the industry not only contributes to infrastructure but also to the communities where Texans live, work, and thrive.
The Annual Meeting kicked off with a heartfelt community service initiative, where participants from TACA’s Emerging Leaders Academy led efforts to pack 2,000 backpacks filled with school supplies for underprivileged students. This generous act aimed to support organizations serving communities across major Texas cities, including Austin, Dallas, Houston, and San Antonio.
Prominent speakers during the meeting included Dr. Anirban Basu, Chairman and CEO of Sage Policy Group, Inc. He presented on the current economic landscape affecting the construction materials sector, touching on vital issues such as inflation, tariffs, and workforce challenges. Despite uncertainties, Basu projected a bright future for Texas, attributing its resilience to strong economic fundamentals and a growing population. His words inspired the attendees, as he remarked, "Texas is a doer state. Let's empower the doers."
Zach Fuller, a cybersecurity leader and managing partner of Silent Sector, also took the stage to address emerging cyber threats to businesses within the industry. His insights into the need for stronger data security measures and organizational resilience highlighted the modern challenges that companies face in today's digital landscape.
Leadership discussions were enriched by Colonel Garth Massey, founder of Command Ready, who shared strategies on cultivating high-performing teams and enhancing organizational culture. His focus on leadership provided practical frameworks for attendees to implement within their respective organizations.
Beyond educational content, the event offered a plethora of networking opportunities, recreational activities, and fundraising efforts aimed at supporting TACPAC. The annual fundraiser was particularly memorable, featuring performances by renowned Texas musician Robert Earl Keen, alongside opening acts from local talents.
In a significant leadership transition, Matt Arnold from Knife River Corporation was elected as the new chairman of TACA. Arnold’s term is marked by the theme, "Built by Generations. Strengthened for Generations," reflecting the industry's ongoing commitment to the community and future infrastructure needs. He articulated, "Everything we build is intended to serve communities for decades to come," emphasizing the lasting impact of their work.
As TACA looks ahead, the collective focus is clear: to meet Texas' infrastructure demands while enhancing the quality of life for its residents. For more information about TACA and its initiatives, visit
