Mindy Johnson Brings Her Expertise to RMCAD



On February 11, 2025, renowned author, artist, and animation historian Mindy Johnson will take the stage at Rocky Mountain College of Art + Design (RMCAD) as part of their Visiting Artist, Scholar, + Designer (VASD) Program. The event, designed to enrich the educational experience of students and the broader community, will delve into the historical narratives surrounding female animators, whose contributions often remain overshadowed.

Mindy Johnson, widely recognized in the animation field, has received numerous accolades, including the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences Film Scholar Award and the ASIFA-Hollywood Animation Educators Forum Grant. Her extensive body of work includes influential publications like Ink & Paint – The Women of Walt Disney's Animation and Tinker Bell – An Evolution. Additionally, Johnson has played a crucial role in various documentaries, serving as an associate producer for the celebrated Pencils vs. Pixels.

In her address, Mindy aims to shed light on the challenges faced in documenting the artistic journeys of women in animation, particularly in a field where their contributions have often been underrepresented.
