Touyako Express Railway Introduces User-Friendly Popup Store Platform

Enhancing Vendor Opportunities: The Introduction of SHOPCOUNTER by Touyako Express Railway

In a move aimed at facilitating vendor opportunities within its stations, Touyako Express Railway has implemented the SHOPCOUNTER platform, a service provided by COUNTERWORKS, a company headquartered in Tokyo. This innovative platform is designed to streamline the application process for popup stores, addressing previous challenges and improving accessibility for vendors seeking to utilize space within the railway’s facilities.

Touyako Express Railway operates the Touyako Line, which connects with the Tokyo Metro Tozai Line, comprising nine stations across a 16.2 km route from Nishi-Funabashi to Higashi-Katsutadai in Chiba Prefecture. The line serves an average of 155,000 passengers daily as of the 2024 fiscal year, underscoring the importance of efficient operations and the potential for enhanced retail experiences at these busy transit hubs.

Addressing Existing Challenges

Historically, the railway's efforts to host events and popup stores faced hurdles. Many prospective vendors found it challenging to access essential information regarding 'available stations' and 'application procedures.' Furthermore, the prevailing method for submitting applications was primarily through phone calls, which limited efficiency and accessibility. The lack of a well-structured online presence and recognizable informational pathways became apparent barriers to attracting new vendors.

Recognizing these challenges, the railway sought to implement the SHOPCOUNTER platform, which is already benefitting a diverse range of tenants across various industries. This user-centric approach aims to create a seamless and informative environment for vendors interested in setting up popup stores. Accordingly, around 10 spaces across eight stations, including Yachiyo Midori Gaoka Station, are now featured on SHOPCOUNTER, reaching out to an extensive network of approximately 80,000 registered tenants.

Future Goals and Expectations

According to Mr. Ueyama from the General Affairs Department of Touyako Express Railway, the introduction of SHOPCOUNTER is a significant advancement that allows for more efficient dissemination of information to businesses already looking for retail space. By establishing clear and easy-to-navigate online information pages for each station, the railway anticipates broadening opportunities for new vendors.

The anticipated outcome of this initiative is a virtuous cycle: improving convenience for vendors, enriching the customer experience for railway users, and ultimately enhancing the overall value of the stations.
