Hyundai and Strava Join Forces for a Record-Breaking Challenge
In an astounding display of community spirit, Hyundai Motor America partnered with Strava to launch the Miles for the Warriors Challenge. This initiative, designed to raise awareness and funds for childhood cancer research, has achieved an unprecedented feat in distance logged, totaling
19,959,136 miles. The challenge took place in September, coinciding with Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, and attracted participation from over
150,000 individuals.
Launched on September 2, the challenge was part of Hyundai's
Mark of a Warrior campaign in support of Hyundai Hope on Wheels, a prominent nonprofit dedicated to fighting childhood cancer. Participants were encouraged to engage in various activities—ranging from running, walking, biking, swimming, to hiking—to symbolize their support for the
400,000 children diagnosed with cancer each year globally.
A Goal Exceeded
Initially setting an ambitious 400,000-mile target, Hyundai committed to a
$1 million donation to Hyundai Hope on Wheels. However, the response was overwhelming, as participants reached this goal within the first
24 hours. This prompted Hyundai to double both the mileage target and its donation commitment, achieving an updated goal of
800,000 miles and an additional
$1 million in funds. As the community continued its impressive performance, Hyundai ultimately contributed a total of
$3 million through this challenge.
Sean Gilpin, Chief Marketing Officer at Hyundai Motor America, expressed his gratitude for the response: "Nearly 20 million miles is an extraordinary show of support for children and families facing childhood cancer. The Miles for the Warriors Challenge brought people together around the strength of young warriors and a cause that affects children worldwide."
The Community's Impact: By the Numbers
Participants logged remarkable statistics during the challenge:
- - Total Miles Logged: 19,959,136 miles
- - Steps Taken: 16,683,314,348 steps
- - Activities Completed: 2,690,842

Evelina Jarbin, Vice President of Strava for Business, commented on the strong community engagement: "This record shows what can happen when people come together around a cause they believe in. More than 150,000 people joined the challenge on Strava, inspired by the courage and stories of these young warriors, and logged millions of miles in their honor."
Ongoing Support for the Cause
Although the Strava challenge has concluded, the fight against childhood cancer continues. Hyundai is inviting individuals to contribute further by engaging on social media. Each qualifying participant who posts or comments on Hyundai's social media using
#HyundaiWarriors will prompt a
$36 donation to Hyundai Hope on Wheels—up to a cap of
$500,000—through December 31, 2026. For more information on how to support this vital cause, visit
