Skycharger and Electric Era's New Fast Charging Hub
In a significant step forward for electric vehicle (EV) infrastructure, Skycharger has collaborated with Electric Era to unveil a new high-speed charging station at Palomar Valero in Chula Vista, California. Announced on September 30, 2025, this new public fast-charging hub is strategically positioned along the essential I-5 corridor, providing vital support for both local drivers and cross-border traffic heading into Mexico.
Key Features of the New Charging Hub
The site is set up with four dual-port fast chargers, each capable of delivering 200 kW of power. This impressive setup allows up to eight vehicles to be charged simultaneously, significantly increasing the availability of charging options for EV drivers in the area. Additionally, the charging station features a grid-tied battery energy storage system that supplements grid power by an extra 120 kW. This innovative solution helps to manage peak demand effectively, allowing for smoother energy consumption throughout the day.
The integration of charging and storage not only provides reliability for customers but also ensures stability in the local electric grid, an essential component as more drivers transition to electric vehicles.
Benefits for the Community
Johannes Copeland, COO of Skycharger, emphasized the importance of this charging hub for Chula Vista and its surrounding communities. He noted, "This site is an important location, providing corridor charging for cross-border traffic, as well as local EV drivers from the neighboring communities of Chula Vista and National City." Such advancements not only cater to personal vehicle owners but also serve commercial fleets, catalyzing a shift toward zero-emission transportation across the region.
Collaboration with Industry Leaders
Electric Era has played a crucial role in this project by providing a fully integrated fast charging solution that combines the chargers, energy storage, and energy management systems. Tait Services handled the construction and installation, ensuring that the hub came online seamlessly and efficiently. Kyler Schmitz, Chief Revenue Officer of Electric Era, stated, "Building the next generation of EV infrastructure requires both speed and intelligence." This site is touted as a benchmark for future charging installations.
Expanding EV Infrastructure on the West Coast
The development of the Chula Vista charging hub follows recent milestones in other Californian locations, as well as in Arlington, Washington. As the tremendous growth of Skycharger's network continues, the company is not only focusing on passenger EVs but also pushing the envelope in electric fleet and drayage truck stop projects within San Diego. The initiative aligns with state and local emissions reduction targets, thereby contributing to cleaner air and a more sustainable future.
With this launch, Skycharger joins the ranks of innovative providers dedicated to reducing the barriers to EV adoption by developing reliable and accessible charging infrastructure. The company already operates a network across seven states, serving a mixture of light, medium, and heavy-duty vehicles and holding significant presence in California’s fast charging landscape.
Looking Ahead
As we move further into a future powered by electric mobility, the synergy between companies like Skycharger and Electric Era will prove to be vital in the ongoing transition to sustainable transportation. With new technologies and streamlined processes, the journey towards an extensive and reliable EV network is well on its way, paving the road for a new era in electric driving.
