Announcing a Unique Contest for Startups: A Decade Ahead at IWATE

Future Pressrelease from IWATE

On Sunday, May 31, an exciting initiative is set to unfold in Iwate, allowing startups to share their vision for the future through a competition titled "Future Pressrelease from IWATE." Officially recognized by PR TIMES, a prominent press release distribution service, this contest aims to enhance information dissemination skills among local businesses and youth through a collaboration with regional companies and universities.

Contest Overview

The competition will commence accepting entries starting April 23, 2026. It invites startups from Iwate Prefecture and across Japan to create a press release that showcases their aspirations for the company a decade from now. The contestants will be judged by a panel comprising experts from Japan's leading startup recruitment platforms and media professionals with international experience.

Opportunities for Participants

This contest offers invaluable opportunities, including:
  • - Presenting directly to judges from major media outlets (television, newspapers, etc.).
  • - Networking with investors and startup supporters.
  • - Publishing the submitted press releases on a dedicated project website.
  • - Participation in a time capsule opening scheduled for 2036.
  • - Assistance with the press release for the PR Award happening in October, exclusive to winners.

The deadline for submissions is May 17, 2026. To aid prospective participants, two online briefing sessions will be held on April 30 and May 7, with no cost to attend.

Feedback from the Judges

Kiyotaka Fujioka, President of Startup Class, emphasizes the importance of depicting the future state of a startup ten years from now. He invites startups not to hesitate in sharing their dreams, as these aspirations will attract like-minded partners and catalyze social change.

The Vision Behind the Contest

Iwate is committed to nurturing startups to stimulate local economic growth. By hosting the International Innovation Convention in October 2026, the region aims to establish itself as a central hub for startup investment, connecting entrepreneurs with essential human networks and funding opportunities.

The "Future Pressrelease from IWATE" project is part of broader efforts to rectify the gap in information dissemination between urban and rural areas. The competition does not limit participants to local businesses, encouraging a diversity of perspectives in envisioning the future.

Moreover, achieving the goals set forth in their press releases can propel startups towards substantial growth in the years leading up to 2036. This initiative promises to transform Iwate into a vibrant center for innovative communication.

Judging Criteria

Contest entries will be assessed based on three criteria: social impact, feasibility, and PR appeal. Potential finalists, ten in total, comprised of five local and five from outside Iwate, will be announced on May 25.

Why Participate?

Participants will gain direct access to insights from industry experts and the chance to refine their public relations and information dissemination skills. Engaging with the competition offers a platform for startups to present their visions and create opportunities for growth and collaboration.
