ZBD Achieves Milestone with EU EMI License and ClearBank Partnership for Fintech Innovation

ZBD Secures EU EMI License and Forms Strategic Partnership with ClearBank

In a significant move for the financial technology sector, ZBD has successfully acquired an Electronic Money Institution (EMI) license in the Netherlands. This milestone sets the stage for ZBD to combine its innovative payment solutions for interactive entertainment with traditional banking services. Notably, ZBD also announced a strategic partnership with ClearBank, an established player that enables real-time clearing and embedded banking solutions.

This recent achievement follows ZBD's earlier success in December 2024, when it became one of the first companies in the European Union to receive approval under the Markets in Crypto-Assets Regulation (MiCAR). With the dual licenses of EMI and MiCAR now in hand, ZBD has positioned itself as one of the few companies permitted to offer a comprehensive suite of fiat and crypto financial services throughout the European Economic Area (EEA).

Marca Wosoba, the Chief Operating Officer of ZBD, expressed her enthusiasm regarding the EMI license, stating, "Securing the EMI license is a crucial step in our mission to be the next-gen Payment Service Provider for interactive entertainment. By combining our innovative Bitcoin-based solutions with traditional fiat services, we're creating a truly comprehensive and innovative financial ecosystem for our users across the EEA."

The partnership with ClearBank is paramount for ZBD as it seeks to expand its operational capabilities. ClearBank will serve as ZBD's banking partner in the EU and EEA, responsible for providing operational accounts for business-related expenses as well as safeguarding accounts for client funds. This collaboration allows users within the ZBD ecosystem to manage their EUR balances alongside Bitcoin, enhancing the existing capabilities related to digital currencies.

The EMI license empowers ZBD to store and transfer fiat e-money, facilitate debit card services, and soon introduce virtual IBANs for both businesses and consumers. These developments signify the groundwork for creating groundbreaking fintech products geared specifically towards the gaming industry. For instance, gamers will have the ability to deposit funds in euros for one game, earn Bitcoin rewards in another, and transfer their funds across different platforms with instant speed and negligible transaction fees.

Ezequiel Canestrari, COO at ClearBank Europe, highlighted the importance of this partnership, stating, "We’re honored to be chosen as ZBD’s European partner. This collaboration reflects our shared commitment to delivering secure, scalable, and forward-thinking solutions, and we’re excited to be part of ZBD’s growth journey, unlocking our clients’ potential to innovate revolutionary fintech products. We look forward to supporting their ongoing success."

In a digital landscape that is continually evolving, ZBD positions itself at the forefront of innovation by merging traditional banking features with the speed and efficiency provided by Bitcoin’s Lightning Network. This strategy effectively removes barriers between legacy finance and next-generation payment systems, allowing money to flow through the internet as smoothly as data.

As ZBD continues to innovate and expand its offerings, the combination of its capabilities with ClearBank's technology-driven approach marks a promising development in how interactivity and finance converge in the digital age. The implications for both fintech and the gaming industry are vast and could lead to a transformation in how digital currencies are utilized and understood, setting a benchmark for others in the field.
