Applied Intuition and LG Innotek Collaborate on Autonomous Vehicle Development

Strategic Partnership to Advance Autonomous Vehicles

In a significant development in the autonomous vehicle industry, Applied Intuition, Inc. and LG Innotek have announced a strategic partnership aimed at optimizing the Self Driving System (SDS) from Applied Intuition. This collaboration is set to enhance the integration of LG Innotek's advanced camera, Lidar, and radar sensors, thereby facilitating automotive manufacturers in creating safe and scalable autonomous vehicles.

The partnership melds real-world testing with simulation-based validation tailored specifically for LG Innotek’s industry-leading sensors. By doing so, Applied Intuition offers OEMs an expedited pathway to develop production-ready autonomous systems that leverage cutting-edge hardware.

Qasar Younis, the co-founder and CEO of Applied Intuition, emphasized the mutual evolution of hardware and software ecosystems as vital for the acceptance of autonomous vehicles. He stated, “By directly collaborating with LG Innotek, we simplify the process for automakers to assess sensors, validate performance both in simulations and on actual roads, and ultimately transition autonomous driving from development into production.”

As part of this collaboration, LG Innotek's sensors will be integrated into the autonomous development vehicles operated by Applied Intuition, which are currently part of the company’s global testing fleet. These vehicles are disseminated across various regions, providing invaluable feedback regarding the perception system and reference data for evaluating and enhancing sensor performance.

Moreover, LG Innotek will incorporate digital versions of its sensors—including cameras, Lidar, and radar—into Applied Intuition’s simulation environment, allowing automotive manufacturers to assess sensor efficacy in virtual scenarios. This integration supports quicker iterations and mitigates the technical complexities associated with merging sensor hardware and autonomous software from different providers.

By entering this partnership, LG Innotek aims to bolster its technological competitiveness in the field of autonomous driving technology. Utilizing Applied Intuition's software platform and its vast operational experience from autonomy testing, LG Innotek plans to implement its own autonomous testing vehicles in Korea, which is expected to significantly reduce the development time for its new complex sensor solutions currently in the works.

Hyuksoo Moon, the CEO of LG Innotek, noted the significance of this collaboration stating, “By partnering with Applied Intuition, which possesses world-leading software technology, we aim to deliver exceptional solutions that set a new standard in autonomous driving. This partnership will position LG Innotek as a global leader in sensor solutions for mobility robotics and establish us as a pioneer in the era of physical AI.”

By merging the sensor capabilities and autonomous software early in the development process, this collaboration simplifies the design and validation of autonomous systems for automotive manufacturers. This integrated approach reduces technological burdens, drastically shortens development timelines, and enables OEMs to bring autonomous vehicles to market more swiftly.

While initially focusing on the automotive sector, the tightly integrated hardware and software for sensor technology will also resonate in other industries, opening doors for future applications in robotics and drone technology.
