LAPU Honors Graduates Pursuing In-Demand Teaching Careers Amid Nationwide Shortage

LAPU Celebrates the Class of 2024-2025

Los Angeles Pacific University (LAPU) recently recognized the achievements of its Class of 2024-2025, particularly in light of a growing national shortage of qualified educators. As schools across the United States continue to face increasing challenges in staffing, LAPU’s graduates are stepping into critical roles within the education sector.

The new academic year has seen more than 400 graduates from LAPU, many of whom managed to juggle coursework with jobs, family responsibilities, and other commitments. Approximately 14% of these graduates earned degrees in education, positioning them for diverse roles such as classroom teachers, leaders, and student support specialists.

LAPU emphasizes its mission to support adult and non-traditional students, including first-generation college students, parents, military-connected individuals, and those transitioning careers. Many of these students express a deep-seated desire to make a meaningful impact in their schools and communities. Andrew Lindstrom, a Student Success Manager at LAPU, shared a poignant story about a 60-year-old student who, despite her initial insecurities, found her calling in teaching. Her journey serves as a testament to the transformative power of education, and she exemplifies the spirit of perseverance that LAPU fosters.

Dra. Andrea Berghoff, a Principal Faculty, remarked on the incredible satisfaction that comes from watching students evolve into confident educators. “Many of our graduates balance their studies with family and work, yet they remain dedicated to their calling and strive to make a difference,” she noted.

As a fully online Christian university, LAPU offers asynchronous and flexible courses that allow students to reconcile their educational pursuits with work, family, and faith commitments. Shirley Esau, a faculty member in the Credentials Program, praised the power of non-traditional students’ experiences, noting how their life skills, ranging from parenting to community leadership, enhance their educational journey and future classrooms.

The support system at LAPU extends beyond academic instruction. Success Advisors provide personalized guidance through each student’s academic journey, offering encouragement, advice, and spiritual support. Lindstrom remarked, “Education students typically show remarkable drive and diligence. They effectively manage the rigorous requirements of teaching credentials and remain committed to their passion for influencing the next generation.”

Professor Elise George also expressed admiration for her students, describing their dedication not only as a professional choice but as a ministry where they are ‘the hands and feet of Christ’ in their service and teaching.

In response to the ongoing demand for qualified educators in the U.S., LAPU’s graduates are entering the workforce equipped with the necessary skills, faith, and resilience to make a significant impact. Looking ahead, LAPU plans to host the 'AI in Action 2026' conference, bringing together educators, tech experts, and industry leaders to discuss the future of artificial intelligence in education and leadership, underscoring the university's commitment to innovative educational practices.

LAPU is a non-profit Christian institution dedicated to offering flexible online degree programs for working adults. With a focus on academic excellence and the integration of faith, LAPU empowers its students to pursue their calling with confidence and purpose. To learn more, visit www.lapu.edu.
