Daiki Axis Group Supplies Biodiesel Fuel at Ibaraki Billfish Tournament

Daiki Axis Group Influences Fishing with Biodiesel

In a noteworthy initiative, Daiki Axis Group has made strides in environmentally friendly marine energy by supplying biodiesel fuel during the Ibaraki International Fishing Festival held from August 29 to 31, 2025. This festival centered around the prestigious International Billfish Tournament, showcasing a blend of competitive fishing and community engagement. The event featured activities such as a billfish disassembly show, hands-on fishing experiences, and local culinary attractions, drawing crowds from the surrounding regions.

The International Billfish Tournament, recognized as OARAI International Billfish Tournament since its inception in 2022, was held at the Ibaraki Prefecture's Oarai Marina, attracting 46 teams with approximately 250 participants from various countries, including the United States and South Korea.

Daiki Axis Sustainable Power, the wholly owned subsidiary of Daiki Axis Corporation, collaborated with Unimat Precious, which operates the Oarai Marina, to form a combined team for participation. The team notably used a biodiesel blend known as “B5”, a mixture of 5% biodiesel with diesel fuel under the product name D・OiL, marking the first time Daiki Axis Sustainable Power provided fuel for marine vessels.

Throughout the three-day competition, the B5 fuel supply was seamlessly maintained, ensuring the smooth operation of the participating vessels. Additionally, the festival showcased responsible waste management practices by collecting used cooking oil from food trucks present at the event.

As global movements toward decarbonization intensify, biodiesel stands out as an alternative to conventional marine fuels, compatible with existing diesel engines with little to no modification. This aligns with the Japanese Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism's target to achieve a 10% reduction in CO2 emissions from coastal shipping through biodiesel by 2040.

Daiki Axis Sustainable Power aims to expand the use of biodiesel in marine fuel applications based on their experience at the tournament.

The Importance of Biodiesel Business

The recycling of used cooking oil is essential not only to prevent potential environmental hazards associated with its disposal—such as water and soil contamination—but also for maintaining the integrity of wastewater treatment systems. Reusing this oil contributes to effective utilization of limited resources while safeguarding the water environment.

Biodiesel derived from plant sources is considered carbon-neutral, meaning its CO2 emissions are deemed zero, contributing significantly to environmental conservation efforts. Daiki Axis Group has emphasized its corporate mission of "Protecting the Environment. Changing the Future." Since 2002, they have been involved in the biodiesel fuel business, developing recycling processes for used cooking oil under the brand name D・OiL. They also manufacture and sell refining plants for biodiesel production. In 2009, the company introduced B5 diesel, a blend of conventional diesel and JIS-compliant biodiesel D・OiL N at a 5% ratio.

Furthering its operations, Daiki Axis Sustainable Power plans to launch its East Japan office in Inashiki City, Ibaraki Prefecture, in May 2024, where a biodiesel production plant will be established. This aims to enhance their business presence in the Kanto region by utilizing collected used cooking oil from local primary schools, households, and businesses to produce B100 biodiesel (high-quality biodiesel) for manufacturing B5 diesel, thus supporting local energy production and consumption.

In conclusion, the participation in the Ibaraki International Fishing Festival is just one of many initiatives by Daiki Axis Group, showcasing their commitment to sustainable energy practices in the fishing industry while raising awareness on the importance of recycling and renewable energy technologies. The relationship between nature and the economy is undeniably intertwined, and initiatives like these are stepping stones toward a greener future.
