CATL Launches Groundbreaking Naxtra Battery and Freevoy Dual-Power System, Ushering in a New Era of Multi-Power Energy Solutions

CATL Pioneers New Energy Solutions with Naxtra and Freevoy

On April 21, 2025, during its inaugural Super Tech Day, CATL introduced three revolutionary electric vehicle (EV) battery products that could redefine the energy sector: the Freevoy Dual-Power Battery, Naxtra—the world’s first commercially produced sodium-ion battery, and the advanced second-generation Shenxing Superfast Charging Battery. These innovations mark the transition to the “Multi-Power Era” of the new energy landscape.

Naxtra Battery: A Breakthrough in Sodium-Ion Technology

The Naxtra Battery signifies a major milestone in battery technology by achieving mass production of sodium-ion batteries. This battery's design overcomes constraints associated with previous materials, utilizing sodium—a resource that is not only abundant but also inherently safe. By diminishing reliance on lithium, Naxtra strengthens the foundation for emerging energy technologies and shifts the paradigm from single-resource dependence to energy autonomy.

Available in two versions, the Naxtra battery makes significant strides in performance. The passenger EV variant excels with an energy density of 175 Wh/kg, placing it at the top among sodium-ion batteries globally and allowing for a driving range of 500 kilometers. Impressively, it can withstand extreme temperatures, retaining 90% of its usable power even at -40°C. Additionally, it boasts over 10,000 cycles of utility, which helps lower maintenance costs significantly.

Safety is a critical consideration for CATL, and the Naxtra Battery has been engineered to eliminate combustion-supporting materials, marking a transformative advancement from conventional safety measures to intrinsic safety features.

The Naxtra 24V Heavy-Duty Truck Integrated Start-Stop Battery exhibits an impressive lifespan of over eight years, reducing lifecycle costs by 61% compared to traditional lead-acid options. This battery is designed for deep discharge and is capable of starting in extreme conditions, illustrating both efficiency and environmental friendliness, and propelling the heavy-duty trucking industry into a new era of sustainable energy solutions.

Freevoy Dual-Power Battery: Ushering in the Multi-Power Era

Creating a pivotal shift in battery architecture, the Freevoy Dual-Power Battery integrates dual energy zones, enabling five transformative functions including dual high-voltage and low-voltage capabilities. This innovative dual-power architecture enhances safety and stability of power output, making it crucial for future autonomous driving applications (L3 and L4).
