Holy Cross Cemetery Introduces A Stunning Mosaic Collection During Open House Weekend in October

Holy Cross Cemetery's Open House Weekend: A Celebration of Art and Remembrance

Holy Cross Cemetery & Mausoleum is set to host an enriching Open House Weekend on Saturday, October 10, and Sunday, October 11, 2026. The event promises a unique experience for visitors, featuring the newly unveiled Open-Air Mausoleum of the Holy Spirit and a special preview of the Chapel Mausoleum of Our Lady. This weekend is not just about viewing beautiful spaces; it’s also an opportunity for families to meet with Memorial Planning Advisors and explore various options for burial, cremation, and pre-planning services.

A First Look at the Open-Air Mausoleum of the Holy Spirit

At the heart of this event is the brand-new Open-Air Mausoleum of the Holy Spirit, designed to create a serene atmosphere for prayer and remembrance. This space is characterized by its elegant glass skylights that allow natural light to flood the area, enhancing the connection between the spiritual world and visitors. In addition to delicate designs, the mausoleum also offers affordable pre-planning options for cremation niches.

The mausoleum features nine breathtaking mosaics, meticulously crafted by internationally acclaimed artists Alexander and Daniela Mandradjiev of Alexander Studio. Each mosaic intricately represents a symbol associated with the Holy Spirit, including the Dove, Fire, and Light, and is made using thousands of Venetian glass pieces, precious stones, and 24-karat gold leaf. As Alexander Mandradjiev aptly described, "Each mosaic is not just an image, but a visual prayer awash in color and light."

Highlighting the Chapel Mausoleum of Our Lady

Construction is currently underway for the Chapel Mausoleum of Our Lady, which will feature interiors adorned with beautiful stained-glass windows and a unique mosaic centerpiece that celebrates Mary’s Assumption. This chapel space is designed to host committal services, as well as to offer a quiet place for reflection and prayer in honor of loved ones.

Joseph Heckel, the Executive Director of Catholic Cemeteries of the Archdiocese of Newark, expressed the cemetery's enduring mission: "Holy Cross has been a place of faith and remembrance for generations. These new spaces continue that mission, embodying beauty that befits the individuals we honor."

Experience Personalized Guidance and Options

During the Open House Weekend, visitors will have the chance to take guided tours led by Memorial Planning Advisors, who will provide in-depth insights into burial and cremation options, along with opportunities for memorialization.
