Virginia Honors Veterans: Free Book Vouchers Available for Stories on Veterans Day 2025

Celebrating Veterans Day 2025: A Unique Opportunity for Virginia Veterans

As Veterans Day approaches on November 11, 2025, a special initiative is being launched in Virginia aimed at honoring our veterans and capturing their unique stories. The organization Words of Veterans, founded by U.S. Marine Corps Veteran Alex K. Sebby, is making 1,000 free print-on-demand book vouchers accessible to U.S. veterans and their immediate families living in Virginia. This initiative is made possible through generous funding from the Virginia Department of Veterans Services (DVS).

What Are the Book Vouchers?

These vouchers allow veterans to transform their military experiences into professionally bound 6" × 9" hardcover books, containing up to 350 pages. The production process is straightforward and user-friendly, utilizing an online platform that guides participants through a series of writing prompts. These prompts are inspired by the Library of Congress Veterans History Project, enabling veterans to articulate their reflections, memoirs, and personal narratives effectively.

The initiative will be available at five locations across Northern Virginia, including the Woodbridge Moose Lodge, American Legion Post 281, VFW Post 3103, Marine Corps League Mickey Finn Detachment, and Veterans Growing America. These locations will distribute the vouchers from now until the end of Veterans Day 2025.

Why Is This Important?

The purpose behind this initiative goes beyond mere publication. It's about preserving the legacies of veterans and honoring their contributions to society post-service. Alex Sebby emphasizes the importance of recognizing every veteran’s unique narrative, stating, "Whether you served in combat, support, or peacetime — your story matters. Let’s get it in print, honor your service, and share your legacy."

By empowering veterans to publish their stories, the program also seeks to foster a sense of camaraderie and connection within the veteran community. Sharing these stories not only strengthens bonds between veterans but also promotes understanding and appreciation among civilian audiences about the sacrifices made by military personnel.
