Celebrating Young Innovators: The 2026 Conrad Challenge
On April 30, 2026, the world of innovation and entrepreneurship received an electric boost as Space Center Houston hosted the prestigious
Conrad Challenge. This year marked a significant milestone as students from over
70 countries collaborated across oceans, working on more than
1,500 innovative projects. The event recognized young innovators in areas such as
Aerospace & Aviation,
Cyber-Technology & Security,
Energy & Environment,
Health & Nutrition, and
The Water Challenge. Beyond mere accolades, these students embody the hope for a brighter tomorrow, having creatively addressed pressing global issues.
Daniel Newmyer, Chief Learning Officer at Space Center Houston, expressed his enthusiasm, stating, "We are excited about these impressive pioneers. Seeing these passionate students collaborate on such amazing inventions underscores what's possible through STEM principles."
Legacy of Innovation
Founded in 2007 by Nancy Conrad in memory of her husband, NASA astronaut
Charles “Pete” Conrad Jr., the
Conrad Challenge aims to inspire young minds to design solutions for global challenges. It is established as a globally recognized competition that encourages high school students aged
13 to 18 to showcase their inventive spirit. Through a rigorous selection process that includes
three stages, the challenge culminates with an
Innovations Awards Ceremony, where the coveted Pete Conrad Scholar titles and Power Pitch Awards are bestowed.
This year, a diverse array of innovative ideas took center stage, highlighting the ingenuity of youth in tackling real-world problems. Each winning team not only earned the title of Pete Conrad Scholar, but they also were awarded scholarships alongside an
all-expenses-paid trip to Boston courtesy of United Airlines. Additionally, winners would receive resources from Equinor, potentially propelling their innovations towards reality. Some innovative concepts could even receive patent support or be utilized in space missions, adding an exciting layer to their accomplishments.
