Silvi Cement Expands Rail-Served Distribution Network
Silvi Cement, a prominent division of Silvi Materials, is taking significant strides in enhancing its infrastructure. The company is expanding its rail-served distribution network with the introduction of two new terminals located in Greenville, South Carolina, and Columbus, Ohio. Both facilities are part of Silvi’s strategic plan to bolster its logistics capabilities in order to cater to a surging customer base across the Eastern United States.
The construction of the Greenville rail terminal is currently underway, with operations expected to commence in October 2026. This facility will focus on the distribution of Type I/II low-alkali cement and Grade 120 slag, thereby positioning Silvi to expand its reach within the burgeoning Southeast market. In Columbus, the previously announced terminal is also progressing well, with expectations to open by the end of 2026. This central facility aims to distribute the same types of cement and slag, equipped with 24/7 loading capabilities to facilitate efficient operations.
These new facilities will not only contribute to improving the distribution network but will also streamline the movement of cementitious materials by rail to locations that are in closer proximity to Silvi Materials’ customers. According to Laurence J. Silvi II, Co-President of Silvi Materials, the expansion is reflective of the company’s commitment to serving its customers reliably while enhancing operational flexibility. He noted, “Greenville and Columbus put us closer to customers in two important markets and give us greater flexibility to move high-quality cement and slag where they are needed.”
This expansion signals Silvi Materials’ continuous investment in its infrastructure. Established in 1947 and based in Fairless Hills, Pennsylvania, Silvi Materials is recognized for its vertical integration within the ready-mix concrete and cement industries as well as in sand and stone mining.
As demand for cementitious materials grows, Silvi's efforts to build a robust distribution network is likely to reinforce its market position and customer satisfaction levels. The planned terminals are expected to meet increasing demand not only in the Southeast but also in the Midwest, aligning with the overall growth of the construction industry in those regions. By investing in infrastructure and logistics, Silvi is well-positioned to support its customers effectively.
The investment in these new terminals is not just about improving logistics. It reflects a broader trend in the industry where companies are seeking to enhance supply chain efficiency and responsiveness to market needs. With these developments, Silvi Cement aims to ensure a reliable supply of high-quality materials that meet the demands of today's construction projects.
