Samsung Strengthens Payment Collaboration with JCB for Global Expansion

Samsung Enhances Payment Collaboration with JCB

In a significant move for the mobile payment landscape, Samsung has announced that starting August 1, 2025, JCB will be integrated into Samsung Wallet in Japan. This development allows users to register JCB-issued cards and utilize mobile payment features, signaling a robust partnership aimed at expanding payment capabilities both domestically and internationally.

During a launch ceremony held by Masaki Okazaki, Executive Officer of JCB, and Che Won-chul, Vice President of Samsung Electronics Digital Wallet Team, the collaboration was outlined. Both executives shared insights on the importance of this integration for enhancing mobile payment usage in Japan, a market known for its unique demands and advanced cashless solutions.

Strengthening Mobile Payment Sector in Japan

Samsung's Che expressed his enthusiasm about the partnership, stating, "Japan has a unique market with extremely sophisticated cashless needs. Through this collaboration with JCB, we can significantly enhance the competitiveness of Samsung Wallet in Japan, and contribute to furthering mobile payment adoption."

Okazaki echoed this sentiment, emphasizing the value of integrating JCB's service into a globally recognized platform like Samsung Wallet. "We believe that mobile payments will become mainstream in Japan, and having JCB's touch payment capabilities available within Samsung Wallet is a crucial milestone for our brand," he said.

Plans for Global Expansion

The partnership marks the beginning of a wider strategy for Samsung to intensify its overseas payment business, leveraging JCB’s international card presence.

Che noted, "We see JCB as one of the most crucial partners for expanding Samsung Wallet on a global scale. Many international customers utilize JCB cards, so we anticipate that this partnership will be pivotal in enhancing the convenience for Samsung Galaxy users worldwide."

JCB has been focusing on mobile payments recently; the transaction volume of touch payments issued by JCB has seen a rapid increase since 2021. Thus, the launch of this integration is expected to significantly bolster JCB's transaction volumes globally.

Future Collaborations and Features

Both companies have committed to exploring additional collaborations within Samsung Wallet, such as the inclusion of other JCB card issues and joint marketing initiatives. Notably, the integration marks just the beginning of potential developments in regions such as Korea, Taiwan, and Vietnam, where JCB cards enjoy substantial popularity.

Che reassured, "We are dedicated to deepening our partnership through multiple avenues, including the joint promotion of products within the payment domain. Our goal is to facilitate a significant expansion of JCB card user base through Samsung Wallet in global markets."

The Samsung Wallet serves as a comprehensive digital wallet that allows Samsung Galaxy users to quickly access credit cards, QR code and barcode payments, and loyalty cards—all designed to streamline the payment process.

Furthermore, the wallet integrates features that eliminate the need to navigate different apps for payments, providing instant accessibility and enhancing user convenience. To use Samsung Wallet, users must have a compatible Samsung Galaxy smartphone, running Android 14 or later, starting from models released in 2021.
