Matson Announces New Leadership Promotions to Strengthen Operations and Develop Future Strategies

Matson Inc. Boosts Leadership with Key Promotions

Matson, a leading U.S. maritime carrier established in 1882, made significant leadership announcements that could reshape its operational approach. On August 29, 2025, the company revealed that Vic Angoco, who previously held the position of Senior Vice President responsible for Alaska, has been elevated to the role of Executive Vice President, Operations. His new base will be at Matson's newly established corporate office in Walnut Creek, California. This move signals Matson's ambition to refine its operational processes and enhance its service delivery across all business segments.

In his expanded role, Angoco will be in charge of Matson's entire network operations. This covers crucial areas such as West Coast terminals, vessel operations, engineering, and the management of corporate facilities. Angoco's journey in the maritime industry spans an impressive 35 years, beginning in Guam. His career at Matson started in 1996 as a Sales and Customer Service Manager, and he quickly climbed the ranks through various leadership positions across different locations, including Guam, Hawaii, and San Francisco.

Throughout his career, Angoco has made remarkable contributions to Matson, particularly after taking on the role of Senior Vice President of the Pacific Division in 2010. His leadership was pivotal, overseeing operations in Hawaii, Guam, Micronesia, and the South Pacific before taking charge of Matson’s Alaska operations in 2022.

In conjunction with Angoco's promotion, Matson made two additional significant promotions within its Alaska division. Jennifer Tungul, who served as Vice President of Alaska Operations, will now step into the role of Senior Vice President for the state. Tungul is no stranger to Matson's operations, having joined the company in 2002. Her professional journey includes various financial and operational leadership positions, culminating in her current responsibility, where she leads all business activities in Alaska.

Tungul’s experience includes notable roles such as terminal manager in Dutch Harbor and general manager for Dutch Harbor, showcasing her deep understanding of Matson's operations in Alaska—a critical market for the company.

Meanwhile, Rob Olson, who was previously the General Manager for Alaska Terminal Operations focusing on Safety, Quality, Environment, and Security, has been promoted to Vice President of Alaska Operations. He will now oversee the terminal operations in key regions including Anchorage, Kodiak, and Dutch Harbor. Olson's time at Matson has been characterized by a focus on safety and operational excellence, and prior to joining Matson in 2022, he held a significant position as a transportation and maintenance manager for a major retail grocery chain and served eight years in the U.S. Marine Corps.

Chairman and CEO Matt Cox expressed confidence in the newly promoted leaders, stating, "Vic is one of Matson's most experienced and trusted leaders, and will add depth to the talented leadership team overseeing our vessel and terminal operations divisions.
