Experience Nature in the City: LAUBE Rooftop Dining Opening at MoN Takanawa

A New Culinary Experience at LAUBE

Nestled atop the sixth floor of the MoN Takanawa: The Museum of Narratives, LAUBE is set to open its doors on March 28, 2026. This rooftop dining venue offers a refreshing escape from the bustling city, where urbanity and nature harmoniously coexist. The name 'LAUBE', meaning 'shelter of greenery' in German, perfectly captures the essence of this innovative space.

As guests step into LAUBE, they will be greeted by a stunning view of the cityscape, with the Shinkansen trains gracefully gliding across the tracks in the distance. The restaurant features a landscape design that blurs the lines between inside and outside, thanks to the expertise of Nakayama Hidetaka Architectural Design Office. The unique infinity pool-like water features and carefully curated soft plantings invite patrons to enjoy the vibrant pulse of the city from a new vantage point. Rather than merely observing the city's chaotic nightlife from high above, LAUBE offers an intimate experience that allows diners to feel the 'breath of the city' at arm's reach.

A Botanical Haven Designed for the Urbanite

The creative direction of LAUBE is spearheaded by the mitosaya Herb Distillery, a project co-founded by Yasushi Ishiwata, CEO of WAT Co. The emphasis here is on genuine engagement with nature—vegetation cultivated for both aesthetic and functional purposes will form an integral part of the dining experience. Mitosaya's collaboration extends to beautifully crafted drinks, featuring hand-crafted cocktails and seasonal mocktails inspired by the local flora. Additionally, custom-designed clay handles and aprons crafted from locally sourced clay add a unique touch to LAUBE's experience, further emphasizing the connection to nature.

LAUBE will also offer a variety of original merchandise, including garden sandals made from herb garden soil, potted plants, garden pencils, and scarves. These items encapsulate the essence of integrating nature into daily life and will be available for purchase at the venue.

One of the focal points of LAUBE is the rooftop farm, 'MoN Farm,' which spans approximately 80 square meters. Here, traditional plant species and seasonal flowers, vegetables, and herbs will thrive, contributing their bounty to the restaurant's menu.

A Culinary Journey Awaits

WAT's dedication to craft food is evident throughout LAUBE, where patrons can indulge in a variety of upscale dining experiences. Weekend nights will transform the terrace into a 'Craft Night Terrace,' offering a selection of craft drinks paired with light meals, all while enjoying the soothing breeze of the city.

Collaborating with local vendors, LAUBE will feature freshly baked bread and seasonal ice cream from Marked, a bakery renowned for its unique ingredients and flavors. Coffee lovers can savor meticulously roasted brews from Coffee Wrights, each cup served in the tranquility of the outdoor seating.

The afternoon tea offerings will include an assortment of seasonal treats, allowing guests to bask in the serenity of the urban landscape while indulging in delectable sweets and savory bites. For those on the go, LAUBE will provide takeout options tailored for city picnics or as a delightful beginning to a journey.

A Space for Special Occasions

LAUBE's rooftop setting is also available for private events, allowing guests to relish the comforting ambiance of this unique urban green space for receptions, celebrations, or corporate gatherings. Inquire for details about booking this distinctive setting for your next special occasion.

A Vision of Community and Connection

Yasushi Ishiwata reflects on the vision behind LAUBE, stating, "At the pinnacle of Takanawa Gateway, a place where new stories emerge, the energy of the surrounding tracks and roads reveals the essence of Tokyo—a coexistence of vibrant urban life and a soothing 'breath' of nature. Our goal is to transform this emptiness into a context filled with plants and distillation, allowing individuals to pause, breathe, and nurture community through food and conversation. We aspire to be that 'shelter of greenery' everyone needs."

Hiroshi Eguchi, president of mitosaya, adds, "It feels entirely natural to have a garden cafe and small farm on the highest floor of MoN Takanawa, as the word 'culture' is derived from 'cultivation.' We are honored to fulfill this role alongside WAT, offering botanical cocktails and delightful non-alcoholic drinks from CAN-PANY. Our goal is to create a space where urban residents can enjoy the joys of nature alongside flavorful experiences."
