Stena RoRo, a leading pioneer in the marine logistics sector, has recently made headlines by placing a landmark order for the next-generation C-Flexer RoRo vessels. This historic decision encompasses two firm orders with the possibility of extending to an additional four vessels, a strategic move designed to bolster their offerings in an ever-evolving market.

The C-Flexer vessels are a collaborative innovation, birthed from a partnership with NAOS Ship and Boat Design, an Italian design firm renowned for its expertise in crafting efficient maritime solutions.

Per Westling, the CEO of Stena RoRo AB, expressed confidence in the potential of the C-Flexer design. He noted that the combination of Stena RoRo’s deep market insights and NAOS' design proficiency has culminated in vessels that are both equipped for today’s demands and attuned to tomorrow's challenges. The anticipated delivery schedule for these vessels is set for March and June of 2029, with subsequent optional vessels expected to roll out at three-month intervals.

Enhanced Engineering Collaboration



The construction of these state-of-the-art vessels will take place at the China Merchants Industry (CMI) Weihai Shipyard, marking another chapter in a decade-long collaboration between Stena RoRo and CMI. This partnership has already yielded 17 built vessels, reflecting a robust relationship that began in 2016 with four E-Flexer RoPax vessels. Their joint efforts are credited with delivering specialized vessels that meet tight timelines without compromising on quality.

Westling mentioned that the successful outcomes from previous projects lie in this partnership's synergy. Notably, 12 of the previously contracted RoPax vessels have already made their way to customers, setting a strong foundation for future orders.

Cutting-Edge Features of C-Flexer Vessels



The technological design of the C-Flexer ships emphasizes high adaptability. This flexibility allows Stena RoRo to tailor each vessel according to specific customer requirements, ensuring optimal operation. Among the noteworthy features is a sophisticated hull form, a multi-fuel engine, and a scalable battery-hybrid system. "With the ability to operate entirely on batteries in the future, the current diesel-battery hybrid system provides much-needed flexibility and redundancy that will serve our needs for many years," Westling concluded.
