Saudi International Handicrafts Week 'Banan' Kicks Off Third Global Edition

Saudi International Handicrafts Week 'Banan' Launches Its Third Edition

The highly anticipated third edition of the Saudi International Handicrafts Week, known as 'Banan', has officially commenced at Princess Nourah bint Abdulrahman University in the bustling capital of Riyadh. This year's event attracts an impressive assembly of over 400 artisans from more than 40 countries, including notable participants from Syria, the United Arab Emirates, Egypt, Oman, Bahrain, and Jordan. Adding to the event's significance, the People's Republic of China stands as the honored guest for this edition.

Marked by its coincidence with the Year of Handicrafts 2025, this edition has been organized by the Saudi Heritage Commission, one of the 11 sectoral commissions under the ministry of culture. This initiative is aimed at spotlighting handicrafts as a vital component of Saudi Arabian cultural identity while strengthening the kingdom’s presence within the creative landscape. 'Banan' serves as a global stage for renowned artisans, fostering collaboration and cultural exchange.

During the event, the Chinese ambassador to the Kingdom, Zhang Hua, toured the Chinese pavilion. He witnessed live demonstrations by traditional artisans invited specifically for 'Banan'. These skilled craftsmen showcased ancient crafts passed down through generations, captivating the interest of many event visitors. The ambassador expressed appreciation for the event's organization and commended Saudi Arabia's commitment to promoting cultural and artistic dialogue.

One of the event's standout attractions is the interactive children's space, named 'Banan Story'. This unique area blends play with education, allowing children to explore materials, try out tools, and create artworks inspired by global handicrafts. Such an initiative not only stimulates creativity but also introduces young participants to diverse cultures and crafts.

'Banan' is positioned as one of the key cultural events in the region, providing an international platform to celebrate traditional craftsmanship, bolster artisan skills, and reflect Saudi Arabia's increasing contributions to cultural and creative industries.
