Enhancing Transportation for Tourists in Sendai



In a landmark agreement signed today, Sendai City, represented by Mayor Kazuko Kori, the Sendai International Tourism Association, led by Chairman Yoshio Yuki, and Park24 Co., Ltd., headquartered in Shinagawa, Tokyo, have committed to improve secondary transportation options for both travelers and residents. This collaboration aims to enhance the accessibility and convenience for visitors, paving the way for a more sustainable tourism ecosystem in Sendai.

Objectives of the Agreement


The primary goal of this agreement is to strengthen Sendai's tourism framework in line with the “Sendai City Tourism Strategy 2027.” One of the main targets is to achieve a total of 6.8 million overnight stays by travelers. The three parties will work together to create a more inviting environment for both tourists and locals alike.

Roles and Responsibilities


Sendai City:
  • - Disseminating information through official channels like the city’s website and social media.
  • - Addressing secondary transportation challenges by providing essential information.
  • - Undertaking initiatives to foster further tourism growth.

Sendai International Tourism Association:
  • - Coordinating with local businesses for consensus building in the community.
  • - Identifying and analyzing issues related to secondary transportation.
  • - Proposing tourism routes and promoting regional exploration initiatives.
  • - Leveraging tourism information platforms and social media for effective communication.

Park24:
  • - Supporting the resolution of secondary transportation issues through the establishment and operation of new parking lots and “Times Car” car-sharing stations.
  • - Examining the placement of parking facilities and car-sharing services at popular sightseeing locations.
  • - Analyzing the usage patterns of parking lots and car-sharing users.
  • - Providing various recommendations to enhance traveler convenience.

As part of the initial efforts outlined in this agreement, a new car-sharing station will open at the parking lot of Hotel Sakan in the popular Akita Onsen area on April 23, enhancing ease of access for travelers. Additionally, efforts to assess and analyze secondary transportation concerns will commence.

The three organizations express their commitment to continuing their respective roles within this partnership, with the overarching aim of making travel for both tourists and local residents more convenient. By focusing on strengthening transportation, they hope to bolster a sustainable economic development framework centered around tourism in Sendai.
