Introduction
The initiative to foster a sustainable society has taken a significant step forward with the collaboration of four key players: JR East Startup Corporation, ECOMMIT, Atre, and JR East Logistics. By leveraging the infrastructure surrounding train stations, this partnership aims to implement a resource circulation model, promoting eco-friendliness and community engagement.
Background of the Project
In the face of escalating environmental issues and rising resource costs, the concept of a circular economy is vitally essential. This project emphasizes the need for a sustainable resource circulation model, addressing various societal challenges such as waste management and the economic pressures of rising material costs. A significant hurdle in implementing these practices is the lack of accessible collection points, high logistics costs, and limited avenues for resale and redistribution. The project seeks to overcome these challenges by utilizing existing station infrastructure as convenient drop-off points for unwanted items, thereby enhancing participation in sustainable initiatives.
Collaboration Details
The execution of this resource circulation model involves setting up collection points as part of the PASSTO service, which allows for the retrieval of unused clothing and household goods. By situating these points where people naturally frequent, such as at train stations, the aim is to create a seamless collection process. Additionally, leveraging JR East's logistical network will facilitate efficient transport from collection to resale sites, thereby connecting the entire cycle from retrieval to redistribution.
PASSTO Collection Initiatives
The PASSTO service will be rolled out at various Atre locations in Matsudo, Toride, and Tsuchiura, featuring specially designed PASSTO boxes installed for convenience. Shoppers can easily dispose of unwanted items during routine visits. Selected collected items will be sold at the upcoming PASSTO Market, promoting local resource circulation.

This not only allows local residents to experience participation in the recycling process but also supports a sustainable model that reflects their desires based on previous surveys.

Future Outlook
This initiative's unique aspect is its focus on the local area surrounding JR lines, enabling a compact cycle of collection and distribution. The goal is to form an active resource circulation circle along the line. Future expansions are planned to other lines, further enhancing community engagement and sustainability.
Through this collaborative effort, JR East Startup aims to enhance the value of areas surrounding train lines, contributing significantly to the realization of a more sustainable society.
