Arealink Expands Health Leave Policy for Infertility Treatment Support

Arealink's New Initiative for Employee Well-Being

Arealink Co., Ltd., one of Japan's largest rental trunk room providers, has announced an extension of its health leave policy to better support employees facing fertility treatments. As of January 2026, the company, headquartered in Chiyoda, Tokyo, will broaden the eligibility criteria for its health leave to include reasons associated with infertility treatment. This initiative aims to enhance the overall well-being of its employees while also fostering gender equality in the workplace.

Commitment to Sustainable Practices

Recent years have seen an increased demand for companies to pursue sustainability and to adopt adaptable working practices that address various social challenges, including environmental issues. Arealink has consistently demonstrated its commitment to sustainability, guided by its basic policy, by implementing actions to minimize environmental impact while also enhancing employee well-being. This latest initiative aligns with several Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), including gender equality, decent work, and responsible consumption.

Health Leave Policy Expansion: Supporting Infertility Treatment

Arealink recognizes the need for a supportive work environment that allows employees to thrive both in their professional and personal lives. Previous measures aimed at achieving work-life balance, such as introducing hourly paid leave and enabling remote working, have been well-received. However, data from the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare indicated that approximately 26% of employees struggling to balance their jobs with infertility treatments have either chosen to leave their jobs, change their employment status, or discontinue their treatment. This is a significant societal issue that necessitates urgent attention.

To address this, Arealink has restructured its existing health leave system. In addition to the existing provision for leave due to menstrual discomfort, the company has now included the option to take health leave for infertility treatment. This change allows employees—regardless of gender—to take leave for medical appointments related to their fertility treatments or to accompany their partners during such appointments. By fostering a culture that encourages male participation in domestic responsibilities, Arealink aims to promote gender equality and contribute positively to the well-being of its employees.

Environmental Initiatives

In conjunction with the enhanced health leave policy, Arealink is also taking steps to reduce its environmental footprint. As part of its commitment to sustainability, the company plans to transition guest beverage containers to aluminum cans. This shift from plastic bottles, which have a lower recycling rate, to aluminum cans—a material known for its high recyclability—demonstrates Arealink’s dedication to resource efficiency and waste reduction.

Moving forward, Arealink intends to accelerate its sustainability efforts by expanding policies that enhance employee welfare and addressing environmental challenges, such as reducing plastic usage. As a socially responsible corporation, Arealink is dedicated to fulfilling its commitment to a sustainable future.
