Naperville Pumpkin Race: A Celebration of Community and Support
The Turning Pointe Autism Foundation is thrilled to announce the highly anticipated return of the Naperville Pumpkin Race, set to take place on Saturday, October 25, at Rotary Hill Park in downtown Naperville from 12:00 PM to 3:00 PM. This vibrant and engaging event is more than just a race; it is a beloved community fundraiser dedicated to enhancing the lives of individuals with autism by funding essential programs and services.
Since its inception, the Turning Pointe Autism Foundation has made significant strides in providing educational and vocational opportunities for individuals on the autism spectrum. The Pumpkin Race brings together participants of all ages and abilities to design and race their very own “Pumpkin Racers” in a fun, competitive environment. The event features a head-to-head, bracket-style racing format, ensuring excitement and engagement for everyone involved.
Families are invited to spend a delightful day filled with activities beyond the race itself. Enjoy a costume contest, a pumpkin decorating challenge, and interactive bubble art. Face painting stations will be set up for younger attendees, in addition to an array of food vendors offering delicious treats. Attendees can also meet local personalities from 95.9 The River, making for an unforgettable day while supporting the important work Turning Pointe does.
Meaningful Work for a Greater Cause
One of the standout features of the Pumpkin Race is its commitment to employing adults with autism. Each Pumpkin Race Kit, which participants can purchase to host their own backyard race, is crafted by individuals in Turning Pointe’s vocational programs. This initiative not only provides meaningful employment opportunities but also promotes independence and confidence among participants. These kits are shipped across the country, with over 555 already dispatched to states such as Florida, Maryland, and California.
As Julie Schmidt, development officer at Turning Pointe, stated, “The Pumpkin Race is one of our favorite traditions because it brings the community together in such a joyful way. Every laugh, cheer, and pumpkin roll helps support our students and their journey toward independence and success.”

From its Therapeutic Day School to adult services that enhance communication and employability, Turning Pointe is dedicated to helping individuals thrive.
Generous sponsors and local businesses make events like the Pumpkin Race possible. Notable supporters include KidsMatter, the City of Naperville Special Events, and Goldfish Swim School, among many others.
