Professor Ayako Sakoda

• - Honorary Professor, Japanese Red Cross Hiroshima University
• - Education: Completed Master's course in Community Nursing at Hiroshima University Graduate School of Medicine in 2001
• - Past Positions: Lecturer and Associate Professor at Japanese Red Cross Hiroshima University, Chief Educator for the Certified Nurse Course on Eating and Swallowing Disorders, Professor of Fundamental Nursing
• - Awards: Recipient of the Hiroshima Nightingale Award in 2017
• - Established the POTT Project in 2018 and became its representative in 2019.
• - Publications include several influential books on positioning during meals to prevent choking and caregiving for elderly survivors of cancer.

Eating is not only essential for sustaining life but is also deeply connected to joy and dignity in life. In this seminar, I aim to share essential techniques and risk management strategies that support the “joy of eating” in medical and caregiving settings, backed by practical evidence. Our newly developed comprehensive choking risk assessment form can be utilized quickly and objectively in various contexts. I hope this opportunity enhances the safety and richness of meals in your care practices.
