NPO TGP Collaborates with Kamiyama Technical College
The NPO TGP, led by Chairperson Riko Higashio, has embarked on a partnership with Kamiyama Technical College, a private institution in Tokushima Prefecture, to enhance menstrual health education, comprehensive sex education, and menstrual product support. This initiative aims to create a secure and educational atmosphere where students can learn about their bodies and health without fear or stigma.
Background of the Initiative
The foundation of TGP's activities stems from the personal experiences of its members, especially those who have faced infertility challenges. They identified a strong desire for earlier awareness and education regarding bodily health. Recognizing that a lack of conversation around menstruation and physical health can affect students' academic performance and daily lives, TGP strives to cultivate a more informed and supportive society. Their ongoing efforts focus on menstrual education, sexual education, and preconception care to help the younger generation broaden their future options.
Incorporating substantial support from various companies, TGP has launched this program, emphasizing the importance of accessible menstrual education and health resources in everyday settings such as schools.
Collaboration Details
This initiative is supported by the following organizations:
- - Nihon Carmic Co., Ltd.: A specialized company in hygiene products, Nihon Carmic has consistently partnered with TGP since its inception. They donate menstrual product dispensers and help produce educational materials to be displayed alongside these products.
- - Alinamin Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd.: Known for its wide range of women’s health products, including pregnancy tests and emergency contraception, Alinamin has contributed to the program by providing essential information about emergency contraceptives and facilitating hands-on demonstrations using their products during educational sessions.
Implementing Support Activities
The support received has allowed for two major implementations at Kamiyama Technical College:
1.
Installation of Menstrual Products: A total of 2,160 menstrual pads will be placed in private restrooms on campus to ensure that students have immediate access to these necessary items, ultimately fostering a more comfortable school environment.
2.
Promoting Health Literacy: TGP will also provide 15 menstrual product storage boxes equipped with educational messages reviewed by obstetricians. The intention is to offer students the opportunity to learn about their bodies in an organic and unobtrusive manner.
3.
Comprehensive Sex Education Classes: Scheduled for May 28 at Kamiyama Technical College, these classes focus on broader themes beyond menstruation, such as understanding one’s own body, knowing when to seek help, and respecting individual differences.
Future Vision
TGP aims to continue expanding its partnerships with businesses, educational institutions, and local governments to facilitate menstrual education, comprehensive sex education, and preconception care. Their ultimate goal is to create a society where young individuals can confront health issues early on and make informed decisions about their futures.
Comments from TGP's Chairperson
Riko Higashio, the Chairperson of NPO TGP, expressed, “We often hear from our support recipients that they wished they had known much earlier about these issues. Understanding one’s body is the first step toward safeguarding future health and options. Through this collaboration with Kamiyama Technical College, I hope that our efforts will lead to generations of students feeling safe and able to seek the support they need while valuing their bodies.”
