A Fond Farewell to Animate Kamata

After 23 years of service, the beloved Animate Kamata in Ota City, Tokyo, will be closing its doors on February 11, 2026. Since its opening in May 2003, this store has seen two renovations and has remained a special place for countless fans of anime and manga. The closure is due to the building's closure, and while there are no current plans for relocation or new store opening, the company is committed to offering memorable experiences for its final days.

To express gratitude to the loyal customers who supported the store over the years, Animate is organizing special initiatives that invite everyone to share their fond memories. From January 31 to February 11, visitors can leave handwritten messages at a designated area near the register, sharing their experiences and heartfelt messages concerning the store. These messages may even be shared via social media, showcasing the community's love for Animate Kamata.

Additionally, there will be a hashtag campaign running from January 26 to February 11. Customers are encouraged to reminisce about their time at Animate Kamata by posting on X (formerly Twitter) with the hashtag #AnimateKamataMemories. Those who participate in both the handwritten message and the hashtag campaign will enter a drawing to win a 1,000 yen Animate gift voucher. To qualify for the draw, participants must follow Animate Kamata’s official X account (@ani_kamata) along with at least one more official account from nearby Animate stores in Kawasaki, Shibuya, or Akihabara.

The announcement for the winners is slated for mid-February, allowing for one last chance to celebrate together before the store’s closing.
