Fox News Media Achieves Record Viewership During 2026 Midterm Elections Coverage
Dominating the Ratings: Fox News Media's Midterm Elections Coverage
The excitement around the 2026 midterm elections reached new heights as Fox News Media emerged as a leader in cable news ratings during this crucial time. According to Nielsen Media Research's Big Data + Panel final numbers, Fox News Channel (FNC) and Fox Business Network (FBN) achieved impressive viewership figures that eclipsed competitors like CBS News and CNN. Hosted by popular anchors Bret Baier and Martha MacCallum, the special coverage titled Fox News Democracy 26 not only drew in significant viewer numbers but also showcased FNC's longstanding dominance in the news broadcasting space.
During the primetime hours of 8-11 PM ET, Fox News averaged nearly 4.7 million viewers. More specifically, FNC secured 4.3 million viewers, while FBN contributed an additional 346,000 viewers to the total. This prime time performance positioned Fox News well ahead of its competitors: CNN managed 4.1 million viewers, and MS NOW, a relatively newer player, pulled in 3.7 million viewers.
In the critical advertising demographics, FNC captured 771,000 viewers aged 25 to 54, compared to CNN's 1.5 million and MS NOW's 665,000 viewers in the same age group. The day-long coverage further reinforced Fox's lead, averaging 1.9 million viewers across the total day, marking a significant victory over CNN's 1.55 million viewers and MS NOW's 1.66 million viewers.
Conversely, CBS News struggled in the ratings, attracting under 2.8 million viewers in primetime and recording its second lowest-rated midterm performance of the 21st century. The CBS Evening News segment also lagged, with its midterm coverage hitting a low with 3.8 million viewers. Fox News surpassed CBS by more than 1.5 million viewers, reinforcing its reputation as the premier news network in the United States.
The digital landscape followed suit, mirroring the positive trends seen on television. Fox News Digital reported double-digit increases in key metrics such as page views, unique devices, and total minutes engaged compared to previous Election Day statistics. The platform saw an impressive count of 3.3 million social media interactions across major platforms including Facebook, X, Instagram, and TikTok, alongside 15.4 million YouTube video views. This indicates that Fox News's engagement with viewers extends well beyond conventional television, leveraging multimedia platforms to connect effectively with its audience.
Fox News Media operates a multifaceted media ecosystem, including not just the flagship Fox News Channel but also the Fox Business Network, Fox News Digital, podcasts, and even direct-to-consumer services like Fox Nation and Fox Weather. For over 24 consecutive years, FNC has claimed the title of the most-watched television news channel, while FBN consistently ranks at the top among business networks.
With these recent numbers, it’s clear that Fox News Media is not only maintaining its foothold in traditional broadcasting but also expanding its reach across new digital platforms. The results from the 2026 midterm elections are a testament to the effectiveness of Fox News in drawing audiences in an increasingly fragmented media landscape. As the network continues to engage with its viewers, it sets the stage for future electoral cycles, eagerly anticipating how these viewing trends will evolve in the years to come.
