Historic Union Victory at Temco Logistics Marks New Era for Home Depot Workers
In a significant turn of events within the trucking and building materials industry, nearly 100 drivers at Temco Logistics, a subsidiary of Home Depot, have voted to join Teamsters Local 528. This monumental decision, which occurred on February 20, 2026, is particularly notable as it marks the first union representation at any Home Depot-owned entity.
The Teamsters General President Sean M. O'Brien expressed pride in this triumph, stating, "We are incredibly proud to welcome our newest brothers and sisters at Temco Logistics into our Teamsters family. These workers are taking a history-defining step—being the first at a Home Depot company to join a union. Their courage will demonstrate that the Teamsters' strength can overcome obstacles when they negotiate their first contract."
Historically, Home Depot has been recognized as one of the most staunchly anti-union companies in the U.S. However, the drivers at Temco, who transport construction materials across Georgia, exhibited admirable resolve and courage in their pursuit of fair labor practices. Thomas Gesualdi, the Director of the Teamsters Building Trades and Construction Materials Division, highlighted the uphill battle these drivers faced against Home Depot's attempts to thwart their unionization efforts, stating, "The strategies employed by the company to suppress this campaign were relentless, but there’s no stopping the powerful Teamsters Union."
The drivers, who operate specialized flatbed trucks equipped with Moffet forklifts, are well aware that the path ahead may remain challenging as they now prepare to negotiate their first collective bargaining agreement.
Jaree Beatles, a driver and new member of Local 528, articulated the sentiments of many in the workforce: "We are ecstatic to finally be able to call ourselves Teamsters. Nobody at this company was willing to listen to us and our concerns until we turned to the Teamsters. We voted to join the union for better pay, dignity, and respect at work, backed by the strongest union in North America."
Founded in 1903, the International Brotherhood of Teamsters has grown to represent 1.3 million dedicated workers across the U.S., Canada, and Puerto Rico. This latest development is a crucial addition to their legacy of advocating for workers’ rights in various industries.
As these drivers venture into the newly united landscape of labor and union representation, their story exemplifies the power of solidarity and collective bargaining. With their union now in place, these workers are better positioned to advocate for improved wages and working conditions, potentially influencing similar movements across the nation.
