Superior HealthPlan Announces $200,000 Annual Grant for Texas Communities

Superior HealthPlan, a prominent managed care organization in Texas and part of Centene Corporation, is continuing its commitment to improve community health by launching its annual grant program. This initiative, aimed at supporting community-based organizations and healthcare providers across Texas, offers a total funding amount of $200,000. The application window for these grants is open until March 31, 2025, with funds expected to be distributed in April.

Targeting Social Determinants of Health

The primary goal of this funding is to address the non-medical drivers of health, collectively known as social determinants of health. These include vital needs such as access to nutritious food, housing stability, educational opportunities, and economic support. By focusing on these aspects, Superior HealthPlan aims to alleviate some of the barriers that low-income communities face in accessing essential healthcare services.

Mark Sanders, President and CEO of Superior HealthPlan, emphasized the importance of this initiative, stating, "We are pleased to continue the Superior HealthPlan grant program that will support organizations and providers in Texas that make a difference in our communities." He highlighted that this program has drastically evolved since its inception, contributing more than $740,000 to community partners in the last few years alone.

Grant Distribution and Eligibility

In the 2025 cycle, a total of twenty grants will be awarded, with ten community-based organizations and ten healthcare providers each receiving $10,000. This funding aims to empower recipients to implement projects that improve health and wellness among Texans.

To be eligible for this grant, applicants must meet several criteria:
  • - Recipients must serve the Medicaid population.
  • - They must agree to participate in a follow-up visit by December 15 to evaluate the outcomes linked to the funding.
  • - The grant cannot be used to cover staff salaries or benefits.
  • - All recipients must be based in Texas and primarily serve Texas residents.
  • - Necessary documentation, including a signed agreement and vendor forms, must be submitted by the deadline of April 30, 2025.
