Las Vegas Sands' Generous Donation of $300,000 to Address Youth Homelessness in Nevada

Las Vegas Sands Contributes $300,000 to Combat Youth Homelessness in Nevada

Las Vegas Sands Corp. has reaffirmed its long-standing commitment to tackling the pressing issue of youth homelessness in Nevada by donating a significant $300,000 through its Sands Cares global community engagement program. This generous contribution is directed to the Nevada Partnership for Homeless Youth (NPHY), which has been actively fighting against youth homelessness since 2014. With this latest donation, Sands has invested a total of $2.9 million into NPHY's initiatives, establishing it as one of the company's core community engagement priorities in Las Vegas.

The donation aligns with three essential strategies aimed at addressing youth homelessness effectively, reflecting a comprehensive approach to meet immediate needs while also building long-term solutions. A portion of the funding will help enhance NPHY’s organizational capacity, ensuring that the organization is well-equipped to handle the growing crisis. Additionally, part of the resources will be allocated for advocacy and awareness initiatives, which include the annual Nevada Youth Homelessness Summit and the newly formed Movement Youth Action Board.

According to recent statistics from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, Clark County has witnessed a startling 34% rise in youth homelessness between 2023 and 2024. As the state grapples with an extreme shortage of affordable housing (with only 17 affordable rentals available for every 100 extremely low-income renters), the urgency for support has never been more critical. This dire situation emphasizes the importance of organizations like NPHY that provide immediate relief and create pathways for young individuals to achieve self-sufficiency.

Arash Ghafoori, CEO of NPHY, shared his appreciation for Sands' support, stating that their partnership has been instrumental in the organization's growth and success over the last decade. The funds from Sands enable NPHY to expand its outreach efforts, emergency shelters, and various housing programs for homeless youth, which include transitional housing and rapid re-housing initiatives.

For the fiscal year 2023-2024, NPHY successfully served 681 youths across its core programs, showcasing the effectiveness of the partnership built on shared commitment and vision. The contribution will allow NPHY to further develop its programs and add new positions to enhance its capabilities in advocacy, communications, and development efforts.

Furthermore, Sands' contribution will aid NPHY in leading the Movement to End Youth Homelessness, which has significantly evolved over the years, focusing on collaboration, policy change, and community engagement. The Nevada Youth Homelessness Summit, executed since 2017, is a prime example of these efforts, fostering robust discussions and innovative solutions to combat youth homelessness in Nevada.

Ron Reese, Senior Vice President of Global Communications and Corporate Affairs at Sands, remarked on the remarkable progress NPHY has achieved with their support. As they work toward defining pathways for bright futures for vulnerable youths, Sands remains confident in the organization’s ability to lead this critical battle against youth homelessness.

In supporting NPHY, Sands Cares solidifies its commitment to serving communities in need by providing vital relief to disadvantaged populations. The collaborative endeavor between Sands and NPHY not only addresses immediate crises but also strives for systemic changes to eradicate youth homelessness in Nevada.
