Coca-Cola Bottlers Japan's Sustainability Initiative at the 2025 World Triathlon Yokohama
Coca-Cola Bottlers Japan, led by CEO Karin Dragan, is proud to announce its participation as a Silver Partner for the upcoming 2025 World Triathlon and Paratriathlon Series Yokohama, scheduled for May 17th and 18th, 2025. As part of this elite global sporting event, the company aims to implement a comprehensive recycling initiative focused on the collection and recycling of used beverage containers, specifically PET bottles, as well as disposable cups at water stations.
The upcoming World Triathlon Championship Series (WTCS) serves as a premier event where top athletes from around the globe compete for championship points, ultimately leading towards Olympic qualifications. This highly anticipated event in Yokohama is expected to attract approximately 160 elite athletes and around 1,700 general participants. Additionally, organizers will aim to enhance the event experience with side activities, including the Yokohama Triathlon Festival, held concurrently at the nearby Elephant Nose Park. Last year's event recorded an impressive attendance figure of approximately 490,000 spectators over two days.
Continuing from the achievements of the previous year's event in 2024, Coca-Cola Bottlers Japan will oversee the recycling of used PET bottles through a 'Bottle to Bottle' initiative. Collected PET bottles will undergo various processes such as shredding and washing before being recycled as raw materials. These materials will then be utilized in creating new Coca-Cola products. As a new facet of their sustainability efforts, the company will also introduce the separate collection of paper cups used at hydration stations, which will be repurposed into toilet paper and cardboard.
Coca-Cola Bottlers Japan has identified 'Packaging & Recycling' as a key priority in its commitment to fostering a circular economy. This focus will revolve around two core pillars: the design of lighter containers and enhanced collaboration with partners to facilitate effective recycling. The implementation of the ‘Bottle to Bottle’ program, alongside the recycling of paper cups, reflects the company’s dedication to advancing resource circulation during the WTCS Yokohama.
