Navier and JIH Collaborate to Launch 100 Eco-Friendly Vessels in the Maldives

In a significant advancement for sustainable transportation in the Maldives, Navier, a maritime technology innovator from the Bay Area, has teamed up with JIH Global Investment, a Dubai-based investment group with a commanding presence in luxury tourism and infrastructure. The partnership aims to deploy up to 100 state-of-the-art electric hydrofoil vessels across the archipelago, creating the world's first dedicated inter-island transportation network of its kind. With an estimated fleet value of around $100 million, the Navier Network will connect key locations including airports, resorts, private villas, and local islands, facilitating seamless travel for both tourists and locals.

The initiative will start with an initial fleet of five Navier N30 vessels set to launch in 2026, followed by the introduction of an additional 95 vessels over the next three years. JIH Global Investment is taking the lead on strategic planning, while its affiliate, HARIM, will spearhead the operational aspects of the network. This includes establishing infrastructure for charging and operating the vessels, route planning, forming partnerships with resorts, and overseeing day-to-day network operations.

Sampriti Bhattacharyya, the founder and CEO of Navier, emphasized the significance of the Maldives as a pivotal market for maritime transportation, noting that nearly every resort and visitor relies on boats or seaplanes for travel. "The Maldives presents an ideal environment to showcase how maritime travel can become cleaner and more efficient, providing a superior guest experience through software-driven solutions," Bhattacharyya remarked.

JIH Global Investment's Chairman, Mohamed Ali Janah, echoed this sentiment, pointing out how the Maldives can influence the future of water transportation worldwide—especially crucial for an island nation facing climate change.

The Navier vessels are engineered for high-end transportation, boasting impressive specifications that include a pure electric range of up to 75 nautical miles and a hybrid range of 150 nautical miles. They come equipped with air-conditioned cabins, lounge seating, and the innovative hydrofoil technology that minimizes drag and noise levels during operation. Navier's intelligent software provides users with seamless booking, trip management, and overall fleet operation, promising an enhanced travel experience.

As the tourism economy in the Maldives predominantly relies on boats—with nearly 3,000 gas-powered vessels currently in operation—the introduction of the Navier Network aims to revolutionize this fragmented system. The hydrofoil vessels will offer quieter, more environmentally friendly journeys with significantly reduced fuel emissions, marking a move towards an economically sustainable model for operators.

As the Maldives strives toward its ambitious goal of carbon neutrality by 2030, maritime transportation modernization remains essential. The hydrofoil technology’s capacity to decrease energy consumption per nautical mile suggests immense potential to contribute to environmental goals while improving infrastructural effectiveness.

While the Maldives will serve as the initial testing ground for this innovative network, Navier's successful model has already been showcased to clients like Four Seasons and WorldBridge Group in Cambodia, as well as integrated systems for the U.S. Navy. The establishment of the Navier Network in the Maldives represents a prototype for expanding modern water transportation solutions to other island nations and major coastal markets across the globe, including the likes of New York, San Francisco Bay, Miami, Nantucket, and the Hamptons.

About Navier Navier specializes in developing efficient hydrofoil vessels and standardized maritime platforms targeted at commercial, defense, and recreational applications. The company's cutting-edge N30 Pioneer vessel is designed for premium passenger transport, harnessing hydrofoil technology to improve both operational efficiency and user experience. Navier envisions transforming waterways into expansive highways of tomorrow.
