CITGO Lemont’s Shamrock Bowl Sets New Fundraising Record
In a significant milestone, the CITGO Lemont Refinery has raised an astounding $192,000 for the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA) during the 14th Annual MDA Shamrock Bowl, which took place in Lemont, Illinois. The event saw an enthusiastic participation of 288 bowlers from 48 different companies, showcasing the community's commitment to supporting those affected by muscular dystrophy.
Jim Cristman, the Vice President and General Manager of CITGO Lemont, expressed his gratitude, stating, “I have had the privilege of being a part of the Shamrock Bowl for many years now. Each year, I am truly amazed by the outpouring of generosity and support from our sponsors, donors, and contributors.” This year’s incredible achievement brings the total amount raised through the event to over $1.3 million since its inception, a testament to the longstanding partnership between CITGO and MDA.
Ruth Ann Dailey, Chief Development Officer of the MDA, emphasized the vital role that CITGO and its stakeholders have played over the past 39 years. “We are incredibly grateful for the unwavering support that CITGO Petroleum Corporation, its employees, vendors, marketers, and retailers have provided to the Muscular Dystrophy Association,” she said. “CITGO sets the standard for corporate philanthropy, fueling our mission to empower families to live longer, more independent lives.”
The funds raised through the CITGO-MDA partnership contribute to crucial medical advancements. Currently, there are more than 20 FDA-approved drugs designed to treat neuromuscular diseases, including two new approvals just last year. For 75 years, the MDA has been a leading force in accelerating research and advocating for better care and support for families affected by muscular dystrophy.
CITGO Petroleum Corporation, a well-regarded name in the refining industry, operates three major refineries and is recognized for its robust commitment to community service. With a workforce of approximately 3,300 employees, CITGO handles a crude capacity of up to 807,000 barrels-per-day (bpd), maintaining its position as one of the largest independent refiners in the U.S.
This year’s Shamrock Bowl stands not just as a testament to the power of corporate responsibility but also as a reminder of the community's strength and collaboration in supporting meaningful causes. By coming together, the participating companies and individuals are making a significant impact on the lives of those affected by muscular dystrophy, proving that when communities unite for a purpose, remarkable achievements follow.
As we look to the future, events like the Shamrock Bowl continue to inspire others to get involved and support causes that matter. The ripple effect of such generosity can pave the way for even more groundbreaking advances in medical research and care for those affected by muscular dystrophy.
