Experience the Joy of Harvesting Corn at Showamura's Agricultural Event in August

Discover the Joy of Harvesting Corn at Showamura

On August 1, 2023, an exciting agricultural experience event will take place in Showamura, Gunma, organized by the Gunma Palsystem cooperative. This event, part of the ongoing 'Megurunma' initiative, focuses on connecting families with local farmers while enriching children's understanding of agriculture.

This event will mark the finale of a series of corn harvesting activities that began in June. Participants had previously planted corn seedlings and harvested spinach, and now they will reap the rewarding fruits of their labor by gathering fully grown corn. Participants can enjoy the delicious taste of freshly picked corn right from the field – a true farm-to-table experience!

The event will be hosted at the farm of Takahiko Miyata, an active member of the Megurunma initiative. Approximately 70 families are expected to join, allowing participants to engage directly with farmers, learn about the processes involved in agriculture, and foster a deeper understanding of local food production.

Event Details

  • - Date and Time: August 1, 2023, from 8:00 AM to 10:00 AM (Gathering starts at 7:45 AM)
  • - Location: Miyata's farm in Showamura (about 10 minutes from Showa I.C. on the Kan'etsu Expressway)

Continuing the Agricultural Experience

The Palsystem Gunma is committed to providing children with developmental opportunities through agricultural work. Throughout the year, they will continue to host various agricultural experience events, including those in Takasaki City and Isesaki City, where children can engage in different agricultural activities, such as growing edamame and other crops.

Upcoming Events

  • - May 30: Experience planting red onions and sweet potatoes at 'Minna no Hatake' in Isesaki City.
  • - July 4: Summer agricultural experience 'Farm Real Life 2026 in Kurabuchi Grass Association'
  • - July 11: Harvesting edamame and corn in Isesaki City for nurturing children's growth through agriculture.

Aiming for a Sustainable Future

The 'Megurunma' initiative is a collaboration between Palsystem Gunma and three local groups: the Yasai Club (Showamura), Kurabuchi Grass Association (Takasaki City), and the Tone River Producers Group (Isesaki City). In 2026, they will celebrate their 10th anniversary, welcoming new members including the Omote Dairy Direct Sales Company and others in the area. A special anniversary event is scheduled for November.

This initiative represents a commitment towards sustainable agriculture, promoting healthy lifestyles, and revitalizing local communities. Under the 'Megurunma 2035 Vision', participants aim to deepen mutual understanding between consumers and producers through local production and consumption initiatives.

Continuing this mission, Palsystem Gunma seeks to bridge the gap between producers and consumers, and foster a sustainable food and farming community in Gunma.
