Huawei DigiTruck Initiative Celebrates New Graduates
On March 17, 2025, a remarkable milestone was reached in Homa Bay, Kenya, as the Huawei DigiTruck initiative proudly celebrated the graduation of 290 students trained in essential digital skills. This event brought together various project partners and participants who participated in the six-week training program designed under the TECH4ALL initiative.
The program successfully enrolled 143 women and 147 men, focusing on equipping them with critical competencies needed to navigate today’s digital landscape with confidence. The curriculum covered numerous areas, including computer operations, digital marketing, entrepreneurship, finance, and cybersecurity.
Dr. Raymond Omollo, the Chief Secretary in Kenya’s Ministry of Internal Security and National Administration, emphasized the necessity of digital skills in today’s workforce. He stated, “Digital skills are not optional—they have become essential. Whether starting an online business, working remotely, or utilizing technology, digital competences unlock a wide array of opportunities.”
The DigiTruck, an innovative mobile classroom powered entirely by solar energy, is equipped with workstations, internet connectivity, and digitalization tools, allowing for accessibility in remote areas. Since its launch in Kenya in 2019, the DigiTruck program has provided complimentary training to over 6,030 participants across 36 counties, with a particular focus on youth, young women, and underrepresented communities. In 2024 alone, 906 of the 1,648 participants were women.
Adam Lane, Huawei's Director of Government Affairs and Policy, noted the importance of equal gender representation in the program. “In addition to our university training partnerships with over 60 institutions, our DigiTruck initiative extends learning opportunities to youth outside the formal education system residing in rural areas. We take pride in ensuring equal participation across genders, given that digital skills are indeed crucial for all in facing the challenges of today’s economy.”
The DigiTruck initiative is a collaborative effort involving Huawei, the Kenyan ICT Authority, the Ministry of Youth Affairs, the National Youth Council, and organizations such as Safaricom and Computers for Schools Kenya among other local partners. The initiative aligns with Kenya’s program for grassroots economic transformation and the strategy for a digital highway. It reflects the government’s commitment to bridging the digital divide, fostering future leaders in the digital domain, and promoting the creative economy.
As part of the training in Homa Bay, an innovation competition was conducted encouraging participants to design practical solutions for community challenges. Winners developed digital solutions aimed at improving healthcare delivery, enhancing living conditions for local miners, and raising awareness about internet safety and cybersecurity.
Graduates of the DigiTruck program are expected to contribute to an increase in enrollment in ICT courses, boost digital entrepreneurship, and accelerate the adoption of digital technologies in rural areas. This initiative is a part of Huawei's broader Skills on Wheels series under the TECH4ALL initiative. By the end of 2024, the Skills on Wheels program aims to train over 110,000 individuals across 20 countries, utilizing mobile classrooms that collectively span over 50,000 kilometers.
The TECH4ALL initiative represents Huawei’s commitment to promoting digital inclusion through innovative technologies and partnerships, aiming to enhance opportunities for sustainable development in a digital world. For more information, visit
